Herbert, age 78, of 2767 Waynesburg Dr. SE, passed away in his home Sunday morning from an apparent heart attack. He was preparing to go to church. His death followed an extended illness. He resided in the Canton area for the past 40 years, coming from Carroll County. He was a son of the late Calvin and Clara Bergert. A retired carpenter and a member of the First United Church of Christ and a 50 year member of Magnolia Grange. Survived by two brothers, Ralph of Canton and Clyde of Chillicothe; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Yarger of Waynesburg and Mrs. George (Laura) Haines of Canton. Preceded in death by his wife Laura, two brothers, and 2 sisters. Services will be Wednesday at 1 pm in the Kreighbaum Funeral Home with Rev. Karl Koepke officiating. Interment will be in Sandy Valley Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. John married Laura E. Long 6 daughter of Charles Long and Savilla Lautzenhiser on 31 Mar 1923 in , , Stark Co, Ohio. Laura was born 7 on 28 Nov 1882 in Waynesburg, , Stark Co, Ohio. She died 8 in 1958 in Canton, Canton Twp, Stark Co, Ohio. She was buried in 1958 in Sandy Valley, Cemetery, Stark Co, Ohio. SE, died Tuesday night in Aultman Hospital where she had been a patient the last 18 days. She was in her early 70's. Born on the farm near Waynesburg, the daughter of the late Charles and Sevilla Long. She was a life resident of the area. Mrs. Bergert was a member of First Reformed Church, Pomona and Magnolia Granges and Rebekah Lodge. Her husband J. Herbert Bergert of the home; a brother, Byson Long of Waynesburg; and several nieces and nephews survive. The Rev. Karl Koepke will officiate a funeral service on Friday at 1:30 pm in the McGreer - Krieghbaum - Finefrock Funeral Home at 4041 Cleveland Ave. SW. Burial will be in the Sandy Valley Cemetery.
