I am assuming that your ancestor died while serving in the war. SOmetimes the remains were shipped home, since decent embalming was available at that time. There are some cemeteries which have a cluster of Civil War graves; the headstones just give name & regiment. If he died in LA, though, especially in a warm month, chances are that he was buried there. ROLL OF HONOR lists all of the war dead interred in various National Cemeterieds in the country. It is a multi-volume set, so try to find it and check the vo9lume for LA> I found my gg grandfather in the NAshville Cemetery using this book. Good hunting.
