    1. [OHSTARK] Update on Old maps of Stark County
    2. Searcher
    3. Here are some quoted excerpts from the "Stark County Democrat" that I recently found in a perusal of that newspaper. I have been notified by a source that wishes to remain confidential that the old map was prepared by a person called "Vail" not Vall and supposedly does not contain property owners. If someone is ever able to see this ca. 1840 map please let me or this group know if it identifies parcels, cemeteries, churches, etc. The 1855 map is available for photocopying for a fee by the Stark County District Library --Richard Here are my excerpts: "1855: January 17 -Messrs. Williams, Dorr & Co, of New York are now engaged in preparing a new map of Stark County. It is to be of a large size, nearly double the dimensions of Vall's old map, which is now out of date, it will have maps of the important towns around the sides. Messrs. Williams, Dorr & Company have already published maps of several counties of this state. We hope our citizens throughout the county will give them such encouragement by subscribing, as will induce them to prepare a first rate map of the greatest wheat growing county in the state. February 14 -The new map of Stark County is progressing under the labors of Messrs. Williams & Dorr.. They intend ornamenting the margin of their map with plats of some of the principal towns. those towns which subscribe for the most maps will be the favorites. November 28 -Messrs. Williams Dorr & Company's, new map of this county is now ready for delivery. It is a large, fine map, and a copy should be in every house in the county. The map gives the names of all owners of large tracts of land in the county. engravings of .Stark County Infirmary. Maps of the towns of Massillon and Canton are also given. 1856: April 30 -A company of Gentleman in Canton, having purchased the copyright of Williams, Dorr & Company's "New Map of Stark County" are now ready to offer them to the public through their agent, Daniel Gotshall, Esq., who is authorized to sell them at $4 each, which is $1 cheaper than they have heretofore sold." [Please note that the latter price is not the current price charged to photocopy this 1855 map, which currently can only be done by the Stark County District Library after first contacting them. I would like to speak on behalf of all of us who obtained copies of this recently in thanking this library for the copies made. I obtained a copy of just two townships, so if you are only interested in a certain township(s) let them know which ones--Richard] Shop online without a credit card http://www.rocketcash.com RocketCash, a NetZero subsidiary
