Hi Everyone, This is Neal Gardner from the Genealogy Division of the Stark County District Library. Almost all of the 1855 Map copies are in the mail and on their way to each of you. I thought it would be helpful to quote the guidelines for requesting research from our department considering that some of you were not familiar with requesting research and copies. A personal note: Please do not request research to my personal e-mail, use our e-mail address at the library: scdlgen@oplin.lib.oh.us or visit the library website and use the Request Forms: www.stark.lib.oh.us Research by Mail from the Stark County District Library The Genealogy Division of the Stark County District Library in Canton, Ohio has an excellent collection which includes nearly all of the county's early courthouse records, as well as many other sources for the area. On request, either by mail or e-mail, the staff can search any of the indexed records for patrons living OUTSIDE Stark County. Patrons living within the county are asked to come in to the library for help with their research. We answer our mail and e-mail in order of receipt. Currently we are receiving nearly 500 requests for research per month, so it may be a few weeks before you receive a response. Please be patient. The library charges no fees for searches, but we do ask that you pay for any copies made, as well as postage. Currently copies are $.25 per page for letter-size and $.50 per page for 11" x 17" paper. Paper size is determined by the staff who will research your request and send you any pertinent copies along with an invoice stating all charges. PLEASE DO NOT PREPAY FOR RESEARCH. To facilitate our research, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines: 1. Be sure to include your regular postal address with ALL correspondence including e-mail. Copies of records can not be sent without it. 2. Make your requests as specific as possible, i.e. marriage, census, death, probate, etc. for a specific person. As much as we would like, we simply can't answer requests for any/all information for a person or surname. 3. Please limit your requests to 2 or 3 vital statistics , or one estate, per request. 4. Please give enough detail to help us find the records you want...full names of pertinent parties as well as the exact or approximate date the event occurred. However, do not include so much that we get bogged down in extraneous information. 5. Please include variant spellings of the name(s) about which you are inquiring. Also, if the name is pronounced other than the spelling would indicate, a phonetic spelling is helpful.
