Hello all. I believe a relative to my g-grandfther, Peter Strassel naturalized in Stark COunty, but I'm not certain this man is a member of the family I'm studying or not. He is: JoSeph Strassel and he first applied for citizenship in your county April 17, 1846 and then took his final oath of Allegiance April 14, 1848. This information came from the Lauren Landis Index to Naturalization. In that same book, there is listed a Peter Strasswho made his first application on August 13, 1847. I wonder if Peter Strass might be a misspelled Peter Strassel? No way of knowing, I guess. If anyone has access to an 1850 or 1860 census could they look, please, to see if there are other family members listed for Joseph Strassel--if indeed Joseph is even listed? Peter Strassel was born in 1817 and served in the Ohio Militia as a Home Guard soldier when Kirby Smith threatened to invade Cincinnati. By 1862, he was in Hamilton COunty. He is not listed in Cincinnati City Directories until 1864, however. I noticed while studying a map of Stark COUnty that there is a Belfort Road, and a town of Paris. Peter Strassel was from Bavaria or Alsace-Lorraine (lots of luck finding HIM, eh?) and I am wondering if there was at once a heavy Alsace and/or Lorraine population in your county. Thanks! Buffy
