I am researching the family of Hiram & Susan (Brannon) Landis of Massillon. Hiram and Susan had one child, a son named Louis, b. 1873. Louis married in 1894 Nettie Maus/Mauz/etc. the daughter of John Maus/Mauz and Mary Cameron. Nettie was raised by her mother and step father, Henry Seeley. My primary objective is to locate pictures of Hiram, Susan, Louis, and/or Nettie by finding living descendants of the Brannon, Maus/Mauz, Seeley, or Cameron familes. If anyone can help me with this, please contact me. Lauren Landis Canton, OH

PA. I may have seen the name in the early records of the Moravian Church. The church kept excellent records and the members were asked to write memoirs which were read aloud at their funeral service. They are a great wealth of information. Most of these records are kept at the Bethlehem Moravian Church Archives, in Bethlehem PA. They are in the process of building a database. Many of these folks migrated to Stark Co., as did my relatives -- the Casslers. Good luck in your search. Gail Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He died in St. Joseph County Indiana. He came to Indiana from Stark County, Ohio in 1854. In Stark County, he married Marguerite Nelson, and had 7 children. She died in 1849. In 1852, he married Maria (Emerick)Stom, the widow of Daniel Stom, a shoemaker of Stark County. Maria had 7 children by Daniel Stom and 5 by David Bachtel. David Bachtel was born in Maryland on June 8, 1812, to Christian Bachtel(born Pennsylvania, ca 1771) and Katherine Smith (born Maryland). They moved to Stark County Ohio around 1833. Supposedly, Christian's father was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. All of the above info comes from a book "The History of St. Joseph County, Indiana". I am trying to track David Bachtel's family backward to Germany. Other than federal census data, I have next to nothing on this family prior to their moving to Indiana. I did find a record on a marriage index of Stark County marriages 1809-1840, for David Bechtle and Margaret Neson on 9 Nov 1834. This is in Volume A, page 292. They were married by John Moore, Justice of the Peace. I suspect this is my David Bachtel, but I could be wrong. I didn't find anything on USGenweb. Info on ancestry.com, other than census, is hazy. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. The present-day Bachtel family in St. Joseph and Marshall County, Indiana belongs to the Church of the Brethren, if that is any help. Hi - I am related to the Bachtels?from Stark County but I do not have a David with these dates or a Christian.? My Bachtels also came from Maryland.? They did change the spelling to variety of different ways.? I am directly related to the Beghtel spelling.? It is just amazing that it is the same family from Maryland to Ohio to Indiana but not related.? Our lines went to Wabash, Huntington and Kosciosko Countys of Indiana.? The furthers back I have is Hans Jacob Bechtel (1749-1815) born in Germany and buried in Plain Township Stark County Ohio.? They lived in Frederick Co Maryland before Ohio.? Hans married Catherina Letch (1755-1842) March 16, 1773.? They had 11 children.? The youngest was a David Bachtel born June 13, 1798.? He was married to a Polly Failor in 1823 but they both died in Stark County. He married Margaret Goettle (or Gettle) and they had six or seven children, all of who are listed as being born in Stark County Ohio. In most sources George is listed as having been born in PA. I have found a couple of online sources that have him linked into the family tree from the Hoke book, but I am not sure this is right as the dates don't match up at all (off by 40 years).
