From 1804 to 1825 services were held regularly at two week intervals in the homes and barns of about 25 members -- David Snyder, Conrad Brumbaugh (Joseph Royer later bought Conrad Brumbaugh's home), David Ebie, William Hoover, John Sheidler, Peter Ebie, Jacob Snyder, Martin Houser, Joseph Schneider, Widow Thomas, George Swinehart, Andrew Christ, Daniel Brown, Jacob Funk, Michael Flory, Widow Leiser, John Hershey, David Bixler, John Thomas, Jacob Replogle, Jacob Bauer, John Garl, Daniel Markley, Daniel Bowser, Joseph Showalter. (Brethren Roots, Winter 1998)" Can anyone shed some light on the various families listed in the above article? I am particularly interested in David Snyder. Thanks, Bob Longbottom

Then click on Stark Co. There are almost 9000 tombstone photos online for Stark Co and about 500 for Massillon Cem. If you do not find who you are looking for, let me know. I have a request to take photos of tombstones of several stones in the Massillon cemetery now and can do yours at the same time as soon as it warms up here a bit. I will need the names, section and lot number. You can request section and lot number by using the Stark Co. Library request forms on the Stark Co. I never bother choosing a publication - just let it bring all of the names up. It will then bring up a page showing information including Stark County Cemetery Volume number and page number. You can then ask the Stark County Library via email to give you the information or maybe even put a query out on this site. Unfortunately, I do not have the volume covering Massillon City Cemetery but someone else on the list may have it and would do a look-up for you. Good luck, Shirley Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. No one seems to be able to do that long. Probably need to do as you said and find a restorer but the ones I have heard about only do small pictures on their computers. Will check with the Massillon Museum or maybe Akron Univ. Just haven't made time yet. Retiring soon will have time to explore other avenues. You can make a color copy at Kinkos or someplace similar, or you can find a photo restoration company in your area. The company I used to use went out of business. They did awesome work, recreating now-faded images on a photo from 1903. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. In my Stark Co., OH database I have a Catherine BACHTEL, Dau of Samuel BACHTEL and Eliz. LECKRON. Catherine m Jacob RUDY on 31 Mar 1812 in Stark Co., OH. Jacob RUDY was an Elder in the Reformed Church. Then there is a Jacob BACHTEL who m Catherine KERSHNER. They settled in Plain Twp., Stark Co., OH in 1810. Jacob was b in Washington Co., MD as was Catherine. Jacob's father was Samuel BACHTEL who was born in eastern PA where he owned an oil mill and a distillery and was, also, "a minister of the Gospel and wielded much influence throughout the section in which he resided". Samuel's father was Martin BACHTEL who came to America (PA) in 1734 from Switzerland. Jacob and Catherine BACHTEL were married in MD but then moved to Fulton Co., PA until they moved to Stark Co., OH in 1810. Henry BACHTEL, a son of Jacob and Catherine, was a member of the Reformed Church of Jackson Twp. Jacob and Catherine were the parents! of two daughters and four sons; Nancy BACHTEL RICHARDS, POLLY BACHTEL BEARD, Henry BACHTEL, Samuel BACHTEL, Isaac BACHTEL, and Andrew BACHTEL. Most of this info is from "Portrait and Biographical Record of Stark County Ohio" first printed in 1892. My guess would be that "your" Christian BACHTEL was a brother of Jacob BACHTEL and a son of Samuel BACHTEL the distiller/preacher of the Gospel.
