In the 1900 census of Stark County Ohio there is a widow Hattie Miller age 42 living with sister Lilly and her husband. Says both women were born in Ohio though.? Could this be her? If so I could send you the download. Hattie's maiden name was Hattie Ramsey and she was born in Pennsylvania, possibly Clarion County, PA and possibly daughter of George Ramsey. I found one Hattie Miller in the 1930 U. S. Census for Canton, Stark Co. Ohio born abt 1872 and married to a George W. Miller but the record indicates this Hattie was born in Ohio which, if true, is a false lead for me. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has her in their family tree or perhaps could guide me to an obituary mentioning her parents. I'm guessing my Hattie was born in the 1850s or 60s and died no later than mid 1950s. The only firm date I have is that she lived in or around Canton in 1893 and was married at the time. Quality Hill was a stretch of North Market St. in Canton, OH, probably between what is now North 6th St. and North 15 St. or so. It was like saying "millionaires row" in Cleveland. There were many nice houses along that stretch. Some of them are still there. I don't remember exactly where I got this information, but if you need the source, I will try to find it again. In the vicinity of Smoketown Reformed Church, SW Stark County, South of Navarre, East of Beach City, West of Bolivar. The Massillon Independent Newspaper often had small community news items under the Headings Smoketown, or Beaver Valley News. Also, someone moved a newspaper business from to Beach City, from Navarre, published for 1 year, and reported on Smoketown (Ohio Historical Society will lend this Microfilm). Also, a small community was called Bixler here on the Tuscarawas River. -scott chillybin1999@msn.com<mailto:chillybin1999@msn.com> ----- Original Message ----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com<mailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: OHSTARK-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:OHSTARK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 26, 2009 9:02 AM Subject: [OHSTARK] Small Communities of Western Stark County This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Information I have: Mr. Gill was married in Stark County, Ohio to Mary McDaniel, a native of Stark County and daughter of James and Sarah McDaniel, the latter a native of Pennsylvania, who, after her husband's death in Stark County, came to Indiana and remarried. Mary McDaniel and Abraham Gill were married in Stark County in 1839, I have her birth as 1819. The father James must have died young because Sarah moved to Indiana and remarried.
