Hi, I'm new to the Stark Co., OH list. I'm looking for information on the following individuals: Samuel FIES b. 22 April 1804, Lebanon Co., PA m. Anna Marie REINOEHL 5 February 1828, daughter of John Michael REINOEHL and Catherine FISHER, b. 5 February 1828 d. 30 June 1849 in Stark Co., OH. Anna Marie's father John Michael REINOEHL died 29 September 1858 in SugarCreek Twp., Stark Co., OH. I found the 1850 Sugar Creek Twp., Stark Co., OH census record for Samuel FIES (45yrs) and daughters Catherine (18yrs) and Elizabeth (8yrs). Both daughter's were born in OH. I believe the FIES/REINOEHL move to OH occurred about 1830. I'm looking for additional information on Samuel and Anna Marie (nee REINOEHL) FIES including descendant, church (most likely Lutheran), etc. Also, there is reason to believe that the EBY family, particularly Peter and Daniel migrated from PA to Lake Twp., Stark Co., OH soon after the FEES/REINOEHL's moved (about 1835). Anna EBY is the mother of Samuel FIES and might be related to Peter and Daniel EBY. Thanks, Philip Fees Visit the FIES/FEES Family History Research Site http://www.fies-fees.org Visit the FIES/FEES RootsWeb Board http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Fees

I am trying to find information about my great-great-grandparents, Kinsey Jones, born in Ohio c. 1828, and Mary Shrake (later his wife), born in Ohio c. 1833. I have no information on where in Ohio or their ancestors or siblings, so anything I could get would be fabulous. They married and moved to Wisconsin, first to Fond du Lac, and later to Trempealeau County, where most of their children were born - the eldest was born in 1854. They were my great-great-grandparents. Any chance these names might connect with you? Sue Whitewater
I am searching for the descendents of Daniel BAIR, b. November 8, 1794, Westmoreland Co., PA. Daniel was the youngest son of Rudolph BAIR and Maria Barbara YERIAN. Their other children were Rudolph, Jr., George, Christopher, Susanna, John, and Elizabeth. Court documents of refer to his wife as Polly in 1824. Other records show Daniel BAIR married Mary THOMA, April 1, 1816, in Stark County. (The THOMA farm was near the BAIR lands in Paris Twp.) Daniel could have married Catherine FRYFOGLE by 1829. Just received this and thought I would pass it on........ I might add that I've been finding these indexes to not be reliable sources. Shirley Houk Pittsburg, TX Edythe98@aol.com ========================================= Just in the last couple of weeks the Western Reserve Historical Society Library acquired an Index to the 1870 Ohio Census. It is a multi volume set of books taking up at least a linear foot of shelf space. Up till now they have had about a dozen and a half to two dozen county indexes for the 1870 census. I haven't had a need to use it yet, but from the size of it, it should be complete for the entire state. I was also under the impression that the 1860 Ohio Census Index was for the entire state. I will check it out the next time I am at WRHS. BTW, they also have the CD-ROM for the 1880 Ohio Census Index. This index includes all households, not just those with children under 10 years old as in the 1880 Soundex. ------------- Tuscarawas County does have it's own transcribed 1870 census index, though, done by the genealogical society. ====================================

I've finally received the census film for Stark Co. 1830, from NARA. I would like to put this census on the GENWEB Census Page. But I need a proofreader. Can anyone help? You will have to get your own copy of the film and have the resource to read it. I looked at it very quickly last night and the handwriting wasn't too bad, not great but not too bad. Do think that it isn't a very big filming. either. Also plan to do the Columbiana Co for the same 1830. Haven't looked at it yet to see how big it is or how the handwriting is. Will need a proofreader for it also. Any volunteers? L Grantham grantha@futureone.com

I've had a couple of questions re the source of this obit info, and believe it or not, I got it from the resouces page of the Stark County web site, under "Todays Obituaries". Genealogy News, 12415 Chestnut NW, Canal Fulton,OH 44614-9617 has a link to a list of obits, estate notices etc. You look up the name/s, and send them an e-mail, and they will return instructions on how to get copies. Unfortunately, I just tried the link, and got a "server may be down" message. Give it a try later. Looking for William HUNTER was born we believe in CAN possibly Quebec in abt 1774. His parents are said to have came from IRE. He moved from CAN to possibly Checengo CO, NY around early 1800, but this has not be documented, it could be PA. Sometime bet 1808-1812 William moved to OH where his sons had moved and his is found living with his daughter. He is said to have been a preacher probably of the Baptist Faith. We do not know who William married, but do know he had several sons. They were; Anderson R. abt 1792, Jabez and Samuel. Jabez and Samuel we know almost nothing about. Anderson served as a Justice of the Peace in Rockford, OH from 1832-1850. He married twice. First to Mary GRAVES. His second wife was Rebecca LILLIES\ANTONIDES. Rebecca was a widow. William had the following known children; Anderson Jr, Jane, James L, Martha, and Nancy Ann. Anderson died on Dec 1857 in Rockford, OH. The HUNTER's stayed mostly in the Mercer, Auglaize, Ross and Stark CO's until they moved to OK in the early 1900's. Georgann whunter@ktc.com

Dear list, An article in the" Ohio Repository and Stark County Gazette" for Friday Feb 8, 1828 states that "On the 30th ult. Mr. Michael Stump of Tuscarawas Twp, whilst assisting to raise a building for a neighbor, was instantly killed by the falling of a skeet. He has left a wife and 7 children to lament his loss." Does any one know this family? Who were the wife and kids? In the same newspaper on Feb 21st, there is notice of his estate sale, with Frederick Stump named as Administrator. Were these two men sons of Michael Stump b. ca 1757, d. 1803 of Franklin Co.
