Herrick Clare, Ohio never took state censuses. There were Quadrennial Enumerations taken every four years of males over 21 who were eligible to vote, but they didn't include the whole families. These Quadrennial Enumerations began in 1803 and ended 1911. Unfortunately, very few have survived. There are none still in existance for Stark County. The book "State Census Records" by Ann S. Lainhart lists those that still exist and where they are located. Hope this helps. Lauren -- Lauren K. Landis Genealogy Divison Mgr. Stark County District Libary Canton, OH

    1. [OHSTARK] SOmeone to take over the list
    2. HERRICK,CLARE
    3. I hate to ask, but I am having to fly to Tampa, Florida today because of the illness of my 81 year old father. I have no idea when I will return, or even if I can get internet access there. They don't even have a local AOL phone number in his little part of the state, so that tells you something. I need someone to take over the mailing list permanently for me, someone preferrably who has a big interest in Stark County. It doesn't take much time at all, in fact, all you have to do is just watch for "bounces", and go the automated web page and fix them. Thanks, Clare Clare L. 2. In a message dated 9/12/99 4:06:12 PM Pacific Daylight Time, JudyLynn13@aol.com writes: << Does anyone know where I could have access to those records? >> Have you checked out a LDS Church Family History Center? If the LDS Church has filmed the records, you can order the film from Salt Lake City for only $3.50 for six weeks. My recollection is that you are really referring to two churches using the same building. There was a Lutheran congregation and a separate German Reformed congregation using the same church, probably on alternate Sundays. They probably kept totally separate records, so you need to be aware of that. Do you know which congregation you are interested in? My ancestors had at least one child baptised at St. Jacob (Mudbrook) Church. The records were in the German Reformed, not Lutheran, book. Regards, John DEAL WAGONER

    2. I can't find my family by name, so I though I'd try by location. I am told that my gr gr grandfather was baptised in Zion German Reformed Lutheran Church in New Berlin, Ohio. Does anyone know where I could have access to those records? Jacob GOGLEY was born Oct 1824, but was not baptised until 1843 I believe. His parents are named as Maria/Mary HOOVER and Joshua GOCKLEY. My real interest is in others with the same surname from that church, so I might establish a connection. Thank you, Judy Uplinger Brannon

    2. J. M. Penkoff
    3. Looking for any information on the Penko or Penkoff families. Looking for my father-in-law's, father- Pete (Peter) Penkoff. He married Mary McGinnis in the early 1900's. Pete was a minor league baseball coach in Ohio. I believe they resided in Ohio for most of their years. After his passing Mary remarried into the Stringham family in California, before she passed away in the 1960's. Hope someone out there can assist me.

    1. [OHSTARK] WRIGHT, Joseph L, m 1870
    2. Phyllis Rickard
    3. On 17 Sept 1870, Hannah Catherine (Kate) RICKARD, married Joseph L. WRIGHT in Stark Co, OH. When I found this I looked for a divorce record or a death record for him, but didn't find any. I knew that her surname when she died in 1934, was LEWIS. Anyway, I didn't find a divorce nor a death for him. In Michigan on 10 Oct 1874, she married Myron E. HISLOP. She said she had been married once before, but it didn't say whether she was divorced or a widow. Hannah Catherine and Joseph WRIGHT had at least one child, a boy also named Joseph. He was born circa 1870-71. When he died in August of 1880 his age is given as 10. In the child's death record it says his father is deceased. Is there anyone on this list who knows anything at all about a Joseph L. WRIGHT, who was old enought to marry in 1870? Kate married 3 times in Michigan. Every time she was married as Hannah or Catherine WRIGHT and she said she had been married once before...every time. It seems Mr. Wright was Mr. Right as she always went back to his name. Of the four children that I know she had, none lived past 1881. Phyllis Rickard Adrian, MI prickard@dmci.net

    3. Hi: In the 1999-2000 Canton & vicinity Phone book is only one listing for ST. PETER'S (CATHOLIC CHURCH). Address is 725 Cleveland Ave. Canton 44702. The church Cemetary Is much farther up Clev. Ave. I Know its real close to 25th St. NW. My parents used to live beside it. The church office # is 330-453-8493. I'm sure someone there can help you. The Msgr. John C Finnigan is the Pastor. I see no other St. Peter Listing. 2. I have talked to Judy by way of e-mail and the cemetery she is referring to is located on St. Peters Church Road running off State Street in Nimishillen township into Marlboro township. The cemetery is still there but the church is gone. The church is shown on the 1875 Stark County Atlas. I live nearby and thought that might be the location she was referring to and she confirmed this. Russ

    1. [OHSTARK] St. Peter's
    2. Gary Radcliffe
    3. Checked with my brother again and he said it was St. Pauls's in North Canton, not St. Peter's. St John's had a cemetery where the West North School playground used to be. About ten gravestones were left there for many years and we used to sit on them at recess. They were faily large and perhaps that's why they weren't moved when the cemetery was. Or maybe the descendants just couldn't afford it. I've often wondered if all the bodies were relocated to North Market St. or if some are still there. The site is now Ruth King Park; my first grade teacher whom I recall with great fondness. Gary Radcliffe West Covina,CA glradcliffe@earthlink.net

We have a St. Pauls church and there is a cemetery there. Could you mean St. Peters Cemetery in Canton? It is on Cleveland Ave. and across the street from St. John's Church Cemetery. Both congregations are in downtown Canton but their cemeteries were about 12 blocks north. My guess is that there wasn't enough room for them in downtown Canton. Dave Myers

    2. Westseek
    3. Hello, I found a journal of my husband's gg grandfather, Henry OLDER, written from 1852 until about 1920. In it, he mentions that his step-father, Charles EDNEY, was as boss on a Railroad at LIMAVILLE in 1852. Charles died within 5 years of his working on the Railroad. Does ANYONE know which railroad this would have been? Would the Railroad have any information that would go back to the 1850's?? I can find no documentation on Charles' death. Is there an index to names at Stark County cemeteries? Thank you, in advance Rosemary Email: Westseek@san.rr.com
