I am researching Conroy, Burton, Elliott from Canton and Marion, Ohio. My Frank Conroy was an Irish immigrant who I believe entered the country in 1858 at the age of 13 in Philadelphia. He is said to have worked as a tinsmith and on the railroad. Francis "Frank" Joseph Conroy moved to Canton probably in the 1880's and lived there for 25 years before moving to Marion. He was first married to Alice C. Burton and had two children, William Charles and Catherine. Alice died at a young age and Frank married Susan (?) Anna Elliott. She was said to be the daughter of John Elliott from Rochester, NY. She and Frank had several children: Tom....273 S. Prospect St.. Marion 2 children Joe ... 319 Olney " 3 children Margaret Ellen "Ellie" (Mrs. Fred Hockstetter) children: W.E., William, Ella 593 Olney Ave. Fred, Harold, Roy ...al died in their 50's Annabelle (Mrs. ayne Peak) Waldo, Ohio no children Mary Elizabeth (Mrs. John White 2 children Frank & Anna lived in Marion and Frank died Oct. 23, 1923. Anna continued to live there until her death. I believe Tom worked for Marion Steam Shovel. If anyone is researching any of these lines I'd love to hear from you. My aunt is trying to get her birth certificate for the Social Security Administration who have her date of birth as 1917. She was born in 1915 and this means about $200 less per month as it stands now. The courthouse staff informed her that there was a fire and her birth certificate was destroyed. She was born and still resides in Stark County. I have never heard of a courthouse fire in Canton. Can anyone advise me if this story is true? Gary Radcliffe West Covina, Ca glradcliffe@earthlink.net

I know this is a longshot, but does anyone on this list live in the Dayton, Ohio area and own a microfilm machine? I have foure roles of Stark County Bible records in my possession, but no way to view them. I can't go anyplace during normal hours because I have to do the school drop-off and pick-up for two separate schedules. There are no libraries with machines near me. If someone fits this description and is willing to let me use your machine, we may be able to find some real goodies. Respond directly to me, please, at woodsieb@aol.com. Thanks.

I checked out EBAY as recommended by another genealogist and couldn't believe the treasures that I found. I started looking for Family Bibles, and then Family Genealogy Books, and well, got through about the first 200 listings of things containing the word "genealogy." Here is a compiled list of some of the goodies I found. If you find something you want, you better go to EBAY and bid quickly. Some of these items only have a day or two left on them. P.S. >You know as I have talked to many over the years. I have noticed that there >were sure a lot of families who came from Ohio and went to Iowa. Does anyone >know why? >A lot of my family that wasn't even related to each other did the same. Sandra, Quoting from "Portraits and Biographical Album of Washington County, Iowa" Published 1887 "Frank Rose learned of the Great West, and the opportunity for seeing it came unexpectedly. Being a machinist, the firm for which he worked sold to James McCahen a new mill, and Frank was sent to set it up. This was in 1853, and was one of the first mills in this country, and the second circular sawmill. After this was completed, Frank worked eighteen months in the machine shop for Rose & Kilgore, at Washington, after which he came to this township, purchased and built the Schnoebelen Mill on English River, and for one year operated it, when he was married to Mary Critz, a sister of Frank Critz, the present Treasurer of Washington County...." Hello fellow listers, I was told I should post this again because in the subject line I put 1938 instead of 1838 as I intended. I am trying to locate the name of the ship that George Conrad Roos (b. 2-16-1786) came to America from Masevaux, Haut-Rhin, Alsace on. His passport was dated 5-4-1838. He came over with his five children, Ann Marie Louise b. 1816, Jacques Conrad b. 1818, Francois Auguste b. 1824, Marie Josephine b. 1826 and Louis Francois b. 1833. I believe George Conrad Roos might have started using the name Conrad Rose after he came to America. I think he originally settled in Ohio, then this family went to Iowa. Hi everyone; Just thought I would throw out my Stark County name and see if anyone else is out here researching it. I am researching the family of Balthsar BIXLER. He married my Sarah DECK, daughter of my elusive Abraham DECK. Balthsar was born and raised in Stark County, then somehow moved to Fulton County where he met and married Sarah. THey lived in Stark County and had their first two children there. When Sarah's mother became sick, they moved back to Fulton County and remained there until their deaths. Hope someone else is researching this name. Susan in Florida
