    1. [OHSTARK] Rider/Reiter/Hartzell
    2. I am searching for the parentage of John Rider b 1816, m Sarah Hartzell in Stark County in 1836. Purchased land in Pike Township in 1842. The land he bought was next to land sold by William Rider in 1838. William Rider and wife Hannah Bordner moved to Tuscarawas County, Ohio and are buried in the Shanesville First Reformed Cemetery. John Rider moved to Noble County/Kosciusko County, Indiana about 1865. He lived in Pike Township in 1850 and Canton Township in 1860. I am wondering if he is possibly the son of William Rider b 1772 who moved to Tuscarawas Co., Ohio. Also looking for parentage of Sarah Hartzell who married John Rider.

    3. Nancy, I am almost positive, that my John FRY/FREY and his son Daniel FRY/FREY were in Lake Township in 1840. Before that, they were in Lancaster PA and by 1850 they were in Stephenson IL. They were Brethren and apparently moving with other COBs. There was another son, John FRY JR, but he was not with them then. I am looking for additional information but don't know of any other relations to these two. I don't know Fredrick FREY or the others, but I would like any information you pick up on these as it may provide clues to mine. 1. [OHSTARK] Ward/Varner
    2. VIRGINIA M. GATTON
    3. The following obituary appeared in The Alliance Review in 1925. I post it in hopes someone will be researching this family and have some information on Sarah's other siblings. At this time I'm assuming that my gr-grandfather, Eli Varner, was her brother. Any help would be appreciated. Pioneer Who Came Here in Covered Wagon Dies Sunday Mrs. Sarah C. Ward, 83 years, pioneer resident of Alliance passed away Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. H. Shallenberger, 33 Keystone Street, after an illness of two weeks. Mrs. Ward had been in failing health for some time. She was born December 23, 1842 in Carroll County, PA, the daughter of the late Jacob and Susan Varner. The family moved to Alliance from Penna. When Mrs. Ward was a year old, making the trip in covered wagons. She had resided in this city since that time. Her husband, the late John Ward, Sr. died in 1898. Mrs. Ward retained her faculties up to the end and was always eager to tell of the early history of Alliance to the younger generations. She was a member of the Friends Church. Surviving are four children: Mrs. Shallenberger, John Ward Jr., Jesse Ward and Frank Ward. The later Mrs. Roy Haverstack was a daughter. Surviving also are two grandchildren, Donald Ward and Mrs. Bonner Morgan and two brothers, Jess and Preston Varner, all of this city. Funeral services will be held at the Shallenberger home on Keystone Street, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be at the Alliance cemetery. Friends may call at any time. 3. Hi, New to the list. There is a WALKER genealogist who states that a Henry MARKER, b. abt 1750 in PA or MD, moved from Somerset Co. PA and is buried in Stark Co., OH. I am aware that a number of Somerset Co. families did move there, maybe ?1835?, including Henry's daughter and son-in-law, Catherine MARKER Walker and Jacob WALKER. Does anyone have further information on any of these families? Linda Marker, from Somerset Co., PA

    1. [OHSTARK] Dear Ancestor
    2. Your tombstone stands among the rest; Neglected and alone. The name and date are chiseled out On polished, marbled stone. It reaches out to all who care It is too late to mourn. You did not know that I exist You died and I was born. Yet each of us are cells of you In flesh, in blood, in bone. Our blood contracts and beats a pulse Entirely not our own. Dear Ancestor, the place you filled One hundred years ago Spreads out among the ones you left Who would have loved you so. I wonder if you lived and loved, I wonder if you knew That someday I would find this spot, And come to visit you. --Author Unknown Al Dawson, Berea, Ohio - MA, History, UNC-Chapel Hill, 1973. I would like to know if these locations are still private residences or have they been absorbed by the Timken Company? I'd like to photograph the houses when next I can visit in Canton if they still stand. 1531 Harrison Ave. SW 1224 Greenfield Ave. SW Thank you. 1. [OHSTARK] Terry Brother's Bakery
    2. Dan Terry
    3. Good Evening Stark County Listers, My ancestor Carman Little Terry left the Westfield, New Jersey area around 1849 and settled in Canton, Stark County, Ohio with his two brothers John and Thomas. Carman married Sarah Elizabeth Shurts(z) there on 31 December 1849. In the 1850 census the three brothers are all listed with the occupation of BAKER and approximately ten years ago while doing research in the Dallas, Texas Public Library I came across a history of Canton or Stark County that noted a small blurb about the "Terry Brother's Bakery" and being the novice that I was, did not write it down, note the books name or log any source information because "I was going to be back again to read it". Without doing a lot of digging on your parts, would any of you have knowledge of where I may locate this piece of information again or perhaps a few suggestions where to start my search for it? Thank you for your time and consideration in this request. Best wishes, Dan Terry

Mr. Reinbold was a former resident of Upper Sacon, Lehigh county, and moved to Ohio about seventeen years ago. He leaves many friends in the county to mourn his death. Mr. Reinbold died at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. James MILLER with whom he lived. His death was from old age. His one hundredth birthday anniversary would have been celebrated on the 28th of November (Thanksgiving Day) with interesting exercises in which our townsman Mr. C. B. (Mitchell?) would have participated.
