    3. Hi listers, Can anyone tell me where to look for civil war information please? A newspaper story says that an ancestor was buried here in England with the American Flag draped over his coffin and family stories say he was decorated by Lincoln. (There must be reasons for this and I'd like to find out what they are.) Later members of this man's family emigrated to Ohio. Does anyone know how I can find out anything about the English during the Civil War? I know this is an Ohio list, but with other family members subsequently going there, I'm wondering whether this man (Thomas LEGG) may have been based there. Much Obliged! Regards, Joyce. 1. [OHSTARK] Surname- FLINT
    2. Hello: I am new to this list and am hoping someone on it may know of my FLINT Family. Amos Flint was born October 19, 1868, in Alliance, Stark Co., OH. He died on December 25, 1937, in Morenci, Lenawee Co., MI. His Parents were Hiram Flint and Permila Baltershill. The last name of his mother may not be correct, I got it off of a birth record that was very difficult to read. Amos had at least 2 brothers, Charles H. Flint, born 1861 and Hiram George Flint born 1864 in Alliance, Stark Co. Both are buried in Lenawee Co., MI. I cannot find a marriage record in Stark Co. for Hiram and Permilla. There is a record of marriage for Hiram and Sally Swartzel on June 25, 1835, in Stark Co., OH. I tend to believe that this is the grandparents to my Amos, but am not sure. I found that a Hiram Flint was in the Civil War out of Ohio, he would have been born about 1838, the right age, and his children the right ages (born before and after he enlisted) but have yet to get the details back from NARA. I am really stuck with this family and would appreciate any help that anyone can give me. Delynn Morse Flinn Bradenton, FL

    3. Hi List, I'm told that John LEGG and his family arrived in New York 28.5.1881. He went to Canal Fulton (Stark County, Lawrence Township) where he stayed until 1884. Some of his family may have stayed in the area. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone with a connection to the LEGG name in that area. Much obliged. Regards, Joyce North Shields. England.

Buffy Hi! It seems we have a common connection as to Paris, Stark County and Alsace-Lorraine. I wonder what caused the migration. It seems that George Gurney below, was also in Illinois as his first daughter was born there in 1859. GEORGE WILLIAM GURNEY1,2 was born 1824 in Alsace Lorraine, France, and died 1906 in Paris, Ohio. He married (1) ANNA HANEY3,4. She was born 1834 in Berne, Switzerland, and died 1916 in Paris, Ohio, buried in Liberty Cemetery, Paris Twp. Stark Co. Ohio. 1. [OHSTARK] 1850-60 Stark County census?

    3. Hello all. I believe a relative to my g-grandfther, Peter Strassel naturalized in Stark COunty, but I'm not certain this man is a member of the family I'm studying or not. He is: JoSeph Strassel and he first applied for citizenship in your county April 17, 1846 and then took his final oath of Allegiance April 14, 1848. This information came from the Lauren Landis Index to Naturalization. In that same book, there is listed a Peter Strasswho made his first application on August 13, 1847. I wonder if Peter Strass might be a misspelled Peter Strassel? No way of knowing, I guess. If anyone has access to an 1850 or 1860 census could they look, please, to see if there are other family members listed for Joseph Strassel--if indeed Joseph is even listed? Peter Strassel was born in 1817 and served in the Ohio Militia as a Home Guard soldier when Kirby Smith threatened to invade Cincinnati. By 1862, he was in Hamilton COunty. He is not listed in Cincinnati City Directories until 1864, however. I noticed while studying a map of Stark COUnty that there is a Belfort Road, and a town of Paris. Peter Strassel was from Bavaria or Alsace-Lorraine (lots of luck finding HIM, eh?) and I am wondering if there was at once a heavy Alsace and/or Lorraine population in your county. Thanks! Buffy
