What's in a name? Whoa, I would start with EVERY Pheonick spelling I could think of... in fact.. I will bet that this spelling is NOT the orginal at all. What county did this person come from ? Join that list, check out the archives of the list and ask NAME game questions. Any other states that they might have migrated from or to ? When you check census go to the Soundex code.. for BEL and look at ALL the names... Just some ideas.... sometimes we are stuck with a NAME and we stick with that spelling... I have a huge line of CHARBONNEAU.. in the 1850 census Weybridge VT. My GGGG grandpapa was named Lewson Cherburn ... actually found on his tombstone he was Toshaw Cherbino..... his name is Joseph - TOUSSAIANT CHARBONNEAU. Go Figure.. Jill in SoCal Looking for (in Stark OH) Samuel COOPER and Lucinda HOFMANN (many spellings) Sam and Luc parents were from PA.. they were born in OH. abt. 1830's .. married in Stark in 1861.. moved to Jackson MI in 1867-68 they had 4 children Sarah Jane, Jacob, Rosa M., Anna O.. Sarah and Rosa married BUCK brothers in Eaton Co., MI
I've hit that old brick wall in my hunt for my Grandfather and Grandmother. Mike Belobraidic lived in Stark County in the year 1912 with his wife, Helen and two children Irene and Charles. A third child, Margaret was born there that year. I am looking for any information on these people to give me a fresh trail to follow. Thanks heaps in advance, Delores
Hi List, I am in the process of transcribing Church Records from The Lexington Congregation in Stark County. There are about 20 pages of Births, Deaths, and Marriages covering 1835-1889. I will be uploading these to my web site SLOWLY. Feel free to have a peek. Sandy in Oregon http://millennium.fortunecity.com/river/483/index.html
Linda, The large part of Massillon is in Perry Township, but along the northern limits is Jackson Township. Jackson Township then goes to the Summit County line. In Jackson Twp is a large shopping center called Belden north of Canton. They tried to incorporate Jackson Township into a city but the voters turned it down. Hello, I have ancestors who are listed in Jackson Township in Stark County in the 1880 census. Family members say they lived in Massillon. I have been unable to locate a Jackson in Stark County. Is Jackson no longer a town? Was it located near Massillon? Thanks for any help! Linda Taylor

I do not normally respond to all this quarreling on these mailing lists. I just want to say that it is unkind for anyone to be name-calling in any direction. People are entitled to their opinions on both sides of the fence. If we truly want to be compassionate, how about a little tolerance in all directions? The speed with which people jump in and start criticizing is disheartening to me. Sandy Culp
Hello, I am researching Jeffries ancestors who lived in Jackson Township, Stark County in 1880. Francis Jeffries was born in England in 1842. His wife was Ann Pratt and his children were Alice, Charles, Anna, Mary Jane, Thomas, Samuel and Francis. Mary Jane was my great-grandmother. Any connections out there? Linda Taylor Waco, TX
HOORAY BILL!!! Brenda, you and I have been on many lists----read Bill's letter and know that's how the caring, compassionate folks feel. Just delete the others---hope you got your answer. I know you wouldn't have come to the list with this unless you just had no place else to go. That's what we are here for (most of us) to try and help one another. Anita Rippel
BRAVO, BILL!!! Excellent post, and I agree with you whole heartedly!! Kathy Davis (lifetime Stark Co. resident!)
Dear Listers: I am a fellow lister, as such we all have the oppurtunity to use that key on the keyboard just to the right and slightly above the "Enter" if you don't like what I am about to punch out on this keyboard. Feel free to use it, that's what it is there for. To the person who sought the help of other's through this list here is what is on my mind: I am sorry I can not help you immediately, I don't live in Stark County. It's been over 20 years since I was there. If you hadn't gotten an answer by tonight I probably would have called a cousin or friend out there to get the information for you. If you haven't gotten a good answer to your question, e-mail me and I'll get right on it. My wife, bless her wonderful smile, has tolerated me for more than 31 years so I don't even know of any divorce lawyers in my area. Who knows, maybe she knows there aren't any good one's here and that why she is still tolerant of me. I started in this genealogy thing because I had so much spare time on my hands while recuperating from a heart attack and a heart by-pass operation. The attack was fatal for a short time but I was blessed with having two cardiologists there who knew what to do at the right time. They also had my wife's prayers. They couldn't have done it without her help. Through this "genealogy thing" I have met many, many wonderful people who have helped me in all sorts of ways and I didn't have to ask them for anything. I've met a few who I didn't care for but through the majic of the "Delete" key, I don't think about them any more! It's great theraphy for the heart! Finally- In the words of that great philosopher, DIRTY HARRY-- "Opinions are like a-- holes, everyone has one! Axium #1 to Dirty Harry's words: "and sometimes it's hard to tell one from the other! If the person who objected to the above person's posting on this list is stilll reading this letter, don't bother replying to me. I and a lot of others have bigger and more often used "Delete" keys than you do. Mine got used for you misplaced reply to a person in need! Bill Iden, son of a Stark County gal and a Carroll County guy.

Okay! Back to genealogy! I will see what I can flush out down here, if you give me time. It may take me a bit, can not travel steps! I will do some research in Perquimans Co. NOT much here but the library, but.... Chowan Co., Pasquatank Co. I will even make a trip to VA. Chesapeake, Va. Bch. areas. You know, I have used the lists to ask for information many times. Once, I asked a FL list if someone could go by and leave a message with my sister to contact me as her phone had not been answered in two weeks....it kept giving me a strange message. As it turned out, the area code had been changed and the phone company did not place a message to inform people. People have done so many things for me....why, I recieved a BOOK in the mail today. And, I , have done many , many favors for people on the lists.....from looking up information at the Historical Society to taking pictures of tombstones to.....well, you get the picture. NEVER have I encountered the behavior I did today on a list. Not once have I seen someone ask for something, get it and then condemn the whole list by saying something Like "You know, I had planned on staying and helping others as I do my research but since the......." I have the feeling that this woman would never help anyone. I feel like she owes this list an apology. Not for asking for help but for displaying her arguement with another member of the list........ We are here to help each other with genealogy or what ever else we can. Life is too short to carry on arguements. I have never seen this type of behavior on our list before and I hope I never do again.
