    1. [OHSTARK] Snyders
    2. Searcher
    3. Does anyone know the maiden name of the Rosanna who married Peter Snyder, or know who Peter Snyder's parents were? I found the following in the Stark County (Ohio) Democrat in 1881 issues: June 9 1881 "-Mrs. Rosanna Snyder widow of Peter died in Lake Twp ae 85 years, 7 months and . days; She was born in Lancaster Pennsylvania and has lived in Stark Co. for 50 years. She was the mother of 18 children, ten of whom are living. She was greatly respected and leaves many friends to mourn her loss. " The very next issue of the Stark County Democrat had the following appeared, and I am wondering if Samuel was one of Rosanna's children: "June 16 -Snyder: Died at his residence in Tuscarawas Twp., Stark Co., on the 2d, Mr. Samuel Snyder, ae 69, 7 months and 20 days. The deceased was an old resident of Tuscarawas Twp., having lived there for a period of 51 years. He was born in Lancaster Co. Pennsylvania in 1811, and came with his parents to the place where he died, living with the exception of two years, on the same farm. The remains were followed to the cemetery by a large concourse of relations, friends and neighbors, showing the hold deceased had on their sympathies. He was a man of many excellent qualities, and an industrious, worthy and respected citizen. He became a member of the Lutheran church at the age of 19 and lived an exemplary Christian life. His wife and five children preceded him in death, leaving but two of the family, who, with a large circle of neighbors, deeply mourn his loss. R. F. L. " I don't know whose initials R.F. L. were...they are not mine Richard

    1. German Presbyterian church and Mud Brook Church and Slanker, Click, Braucher, Tresch, Humber, Everart & Heldenbrand
    2. Searcher
    3. Does a German Presbyterian church or a Mud Brook Church ring any bells? Marriage records from Stark County from an 1833 marriage and an 1855 marriage show a Rev. John Hamm of the German Presbyterian church of Franklin Twp., performed the marriages. Does anyone know where this church was located, or if any of the records of the church are still around? (Franklin Twp. was absorbed by Summit Co., but both marriages were recorded in Stark County.) Or does anyone know if this was the same as the Mud Brook Church in Jackson Twp.? From an 1854 issue of the Stark County Democrat: "On the east side of the [Tuscarawas] river, the German Reformed, and Lutheran persuasions, were the most common. They had no church, but attended the ministrations of Father Wier and Faust, at Mud Brook church, in Jackson Township." An old book on Stark County stated "1834. German Reformed and Lutherans built Mud brook Church. Slanker, Click, Braucher, Tresch, Humber, Everart & Heldenbrand [were members.] " I have also discovered that there was a Mud Creek cemetery, and have posted a question about that already, but nobody seems to know anything about it. Does anyone know if that cemetery was ever transcribed or is still around? On the current map of Stark County I notice there is still a Mud Brook road in existence, and this might help those of you who live in the area "place" this church and cemetery. The map I have does not show any cemetery along this road, and I wonder if it was replaced by a golf course or something... Richard

    1. [OHSTARK] Florence DeLuca
    2. Florence was born in Magnolia Ohio Feb 28, 1899. Her parents were Thomas and Mary Grace DeLuca. They were recent immigrants from Italy. There other children at the time were Carl & George (both born in Italy). After Florence, they had Emma born May 12, 1900, and Anna born March 10, 1901. I would like Birth or Baptismal records on these last three children. They would have gone to a Catholic Church. Thank you for your help. Grace Spada 4520 Cottage Grove Rd. 3. I believe the last time I copied the entire map, it required 8 copies of 11" x 17" paper. Each copy is $.50. So, $4 for copies plus postage. I don't know the new rates, but less than $5. 1. [OHSTARK] Harsh family of Stark OH and Washington CO PA
    2. Searcher
    3. >From the February 13 1861 Stark County Democrat: "George Harsh is a native of Washington co. Pennsylvania, which state both his parents were born and brought up; the name indicating a German descent. He is 5 foot 9 inches weighing 178 lbs, with a well knit frame capable of considerable endurance. His parents being of the Lutheran Church, he was educated in that faith, and that in the German language, which is as common in much of Stark Co. as in Pennsylvania. In politics, his father was of the Jackson party but his own preferences were for the Whig party. In 1812 his father migrated to Stark and settled near Massillon, the country being then an almost unbroken wilderness. At the age of 17 he began teaching country schools in the winter time, which he continued for several years. In 1831 he engaged in merchandising in Massillon, in partnership with his brother Jacob who soon after died. He then continued the business alone, for about 25 years. Now at the age of 50 he has his third wife and has outlived many of his chi! ldren." There are Harshs listed in baptismal records in the book Dutch Glory, the Bethlehem Lutheran church of Washington Co. Pennsylvania by Margaret Simon. But George above is not listed. It is possible the Harshs are related to my Hallowbush/ Hillibish family, members of whom also attended the old Gosenhoppen church. My Anna Maria (Hillibish) Frank died in Washington Co. Pennsylvania. I have always wondered if the Hallowbushs dropped a few letters to simplify their name. Richard

I believe Catharine was one of the children of Conrad Neustetter, who may (or may not) have been a Hessian soldier. Judith in OH
