    2. Hi Kelly - Massillon is in Stark County. I worked there for about 5 years. It is located due West of Canton about 6 miles on Route 30 (a U.S. route still, I believe.) U.S. 30 used to be the main East/West road until the advent of the Interstates. Wendell Way - Kennesaw, GA 35 year native and resident of Canton. 3. Thanks Susi, Say do you know how to find someones e-mail address if they have one? Do you know why so many French and Germans would have come to the New Berlin/Massillion area in the early to mid 1800? Land was not that cheap was there some form work program going on at the time? The Catholics would have found a great interest in St. John's Church it was one of only a few serving a very large area, from what I have read. 2. Kelly Grojean
    3. Hi, I would to thank all of you for the information you have provided me with today. I am looking for information on the Gro(s)jean Family. We beleave they came to New Berlin about 1833 from France, location unknown could have been the Alsace/Lorrain region. We think the parents were: Constantin Gro(s)jean and Josphine Martean ( not sure if that is the correct spelling ). Beleave they had with them at least two sons: Constantin; his dob of birth was 8/27/17 Celestin his dob of birth was 11/05/29 Constantin, became a citizen in 1840 the nationalization form says he was a subject of the King of France. He got married in the St. John's Catholic Church in 1844 to a Dorothea Oriente/Rinder they had 4 children before moving to New Hamburg, Mo. in 1849. Celestin followed shortly, beleave the parents moved with Celestin and then returned later and died in Ohio. Beyond this information we know nothing, not even sure of the correct spelling the name is spelled both ways in France. Any help is welcomed! Kelly

    1. [OHSTARK] Stark Co. PALMER and TRUMP families
    2. Kathy Funk
    3. Hello, I thought I'd just put my line in the water again to see if anyone out there is researching the families of Jonathan PALMER or Rebecca TRUMP, during the first half of the 1800s? Looks like Jonathan PALMER's parents were probably Joseph PALMER and Catherine KNODLE, married in 1809 in Washington County, Maryland. They seem to have come to Stark County by about 1820, I think. Rebecca TRUMP's parents are John Peter TRUMP and Barbara / Rebecca DIERDORF, it seems. I have found records of her parents and siblings dating from 1829 in Zion Lutheran Church in North Canton. Jonathan PALMER and Rebecca TRUMP were married in 1834 in Stark County. Also-- I'm not very familiar with the townships of Stark County. Is Plain Twp. near North Canton? Are they actually the same township? How about Jackson Twp.? Best regards, Kathy

    3. Hello again Kelly. German settlers were everywhere in the county; many came here through PA; many of them landed in Philadelphia. I am not sure about French settlers in any number in the county. Mine arrived around 1811 on... What/who are you looking for? There are at least 3 published county histories; it might help you to locate your family by looking at them first. 3. My great grandfather, David Bachtel, was born June 8, 1812 in Washington Co. Maryland. I think that he lived there until he was around 18 years old, then he moved to Stark County, Ohio. He had a brother named Joseph, born September 14, 1805 in Fredrick Co. Maryland. Joseph also moved to Stark Co. Ohio. Their father's name was Christian, according to family stories, but I haven't been able to connect him positively. Some people think that the Christian Bachtel b. 1772 in PA (married Catherine Smith) is their father. Is there anyone who has information on this family? Thanks, Marilyn
