    3. Hi Sue, Copies of the original papers of the estate or a copy of the will from microfilm can be obtained from the Genealogy Division of the Stark County District Library. Request these by visiting our website at www.stark.lib.oh.us and using the Request Forms in the Genealogy Section. You can specify copies of only those documents that contain genealogical information, also, ie List of Heirs, Executor or Administrator's Bond, etc. The estate is Case # 1291 OS (Old Series) and the Will can be found in Volume B, page 480. Quote these citations when requesting copies (saves us time in getting these to you). No further information can be gained from a lookup in the Estate and the Will Indices other than a more specific probate date than 1849. 2. Judith
    3. Naturalization records are held in the county seat where the individual was naturalized, so you would have to have an idea of where that might be. There is no central record of it. Someone could be naturalized anywhere--- If you think someone was nat. in Stark, the Canton Lib. would hold them. In Cuy. County, they are at the Cuy. County Archives, etc. Judith in OH

    3. Oh, how sickening! Ancestry's late use of "MyFamily.com" because Broderbund already had "Family Tree Maker", and Broderbund's late use (really, buying out of...) Genealogy.com since almost everything had "gen" in it instead of "family", have helped to cause sooo much confusion for their supposed customers, and all for the sake of a few more "bucks". Now, you tell us it's even more pyramided than I knew. I surely wish both would concentrate on improving their products instead of buying out the genealogy world, & coming up with supposedly catchy new titles, & reinventing the wheel (a pedigree or family tree...) for their own sites. Sorry for taking your time this afternoon on this somewhat off-topic subject, but I think it's fairly important for these companies to hear some feedback from real genealogists, both amateur & professional. 3. Dear Bob et al., I would assume you haven't received much mail in the last couple of days because the entire Rootsweb system has been down for revamping; I miss it, too! I hope they don't do this all at once again... The new owners, Ancestry.com, are acting like a big, anonymous, uncaring, powerful American business instead of like the old caring volunteers' feel. I hope they take note of the rumblings and change their hubristic policy/ies for future upgrades, however wonderful they might be when it finally comes back on-line. "Soon" is NOT 3 or more days; they should've been more specifically realistic. Warm regards, Barbara (V. 1. [OHSTARK] Ohio Naturalization Records?
    2. Richard Sliter
    3. I have a question from a genealogist friend in New York. I hope someone knows the answer to these. 1. Where are Ohio naturalization records kept? They are not at the National Archives in Washington, DC. I was looking for James Henderson's naturalization record. I believe he was naturalized because his wife was from Ireland and he was part owner of the store 'Henderson & Bleakley' in Wellsville...land owners had to be citizens. 2.Where would the deed or business records for the store in Wellsville, OHIO in 1860 be found? ...I know the store was in business in 1860. I am in Stark County and can get these things - but am new to genealogy, and do not know where to look? Becky

    3. The following list are Cartes de visites I have with an identification on the back of the person(s) in the photograph. If they are ancestors of yours I would be happy to give them to you. Just identify which ones you want and your mailing address on an email. Carte de visites were introduced in 1859 and were popular into the 1880s. They were all taken by photographers in Ohio. The dates are those the photographer was in business as listed in the book "Ohio Photographers 1839-1900" by Diane Van Skiver Gaggle, a very helpful book in dating old photographs. Listed in order is the writing on the back identifying the person(s) in the photo, the photographer's name and location and the dates he was in business. I gathered these pictures at flea markets in the 60' and 70's when I was starting my collection of old cameras, photos and photographic paraphernalia. That hobby slowed down and stopped in the early 80's My wife and I are now "into" our family genealogies. It is more fun and takes up a lot less space -- and a LOT more time. 1. Re: [OHSTARK] Birth/ Death records

    3. Hello all. Here in OH, a death record from that period SHOULD contain the name of the deceased, their address at time of death; name of spouse & whether they are also deceased; names of both parents, and place of birth of deceased and parents. Cause of death, location and date of burial are also certified. So it is a pretty complete record. However. There is always a however in genealogy. The information you get depends on the reliability of the informant. (THE INFORMANT'S NAME & ADDRESS ARE ALSO GIVEN, WHICH CAN SOMETIMES LEAD YOU TO THE NEXT GENERATION.) In some cases, the parent may be listed as "unknown;" same with their place of origin. In my experience, it happens when the informant is an in-law, grandchild, or someone else fairly removed in time who just does not know or remember. Your best bet, if possible, is to get the death cert. for a "child" who was comparitively young, and also to order death cert. for other "children" of the couple youy are searching for. You can then compare entries and get at the "real" truth. I searched for the maiden name of a German Immigrant gg-grandmother-- it did not appear on her cert., that of my g-grandmother, or one of her sisters. I finally found the cert. for the sister who died first, and voila! There is finally was. Those names are often spelled differently too. Here is the URL for how & where to get various vital records from OH: http://www.vitalrec.com/oh.html In your case, you can order from the OH Historical Society in Columbus for $3.00. If you live in the state, you can visit and make your own copy for $.25; you can also do that in Youngstown. There is an idex to OH death records from 1913-1938 online at their website: http//:www.ohiohistory.org/ Good hunting. 3. Hi Jim: For 1926 death records go to the Ohio Historical Society web-site: http://www.ohiohistory.org They have an online search engine for the death records 1911-1937. (They have been scanned and some of the names are jumbled, so initially, try to do as wide a search as possible.) Once you have the information, you can order the certificate from them. And yes, the certificate should have the father's name and mother's maiden name, if it was known by the informant who gave the information at the time of the person's death. 3. Hi: If you are interested in obtaining a copy of the original History of Stark Co, I suggest you contact your local used bookstore. I did and they were able to locate an original Kentucky History I was looking for, at a very reasonable price (and I live in CA!). A second time they located another book that was out of print (it was fiction, but based on fact, and mentioned one of my ancestors). That one happened to be signed by the author but was still a very reasonable $20! (The used bookstores have the ability to put out a "want" that goes to other used bookstores across the US.) Good luck!
