    3. Hi Carole, There are several histories for Stark County which may be helpful, the most thorough of which is the "Stark County Story" by Heald. This 7-volume set was published from a radio series broadcast in the early 1950s on WHBC here in Canton. There are also histories by Lehman, an educator here in Canton, H.T.O. Blue, and a compilation entitled "Portrait and Biographical Record of Stark County, Ohio". There is also a small book entitled (sic) "Navarre, Story of a Small Town" which extends into neighboring Sugar Creek Twp. Most of the people mentioned do not extend very far into the 1800s and does not discuss original settlers, however. There are also sketches of early settlers of all Stark County townships in the 1876 Stark County Atlas. Anyone can request searches of any or all of these sources from the Genealogy Division of the Stark County District Library by filling out a Request Form at: scdlgen@oplin.lib.oh.us/gene.html Neal Thompson Gardner Genealogical Librarian == The Website your boss doesn't want you to know about ! == www.sixfigureincome.com/?1224802 ----- Original Message ----- From: "carole lubbers" <carolelubbers@email.msn.com> To: <OHSTARK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: 30 March, 2001 5:48 PM Subject: [OHSTARK] Sugarcreek Twp > Is there an early history of this township that is published? 3. Hi Kelly, The Genealogy Division of the Stark County District Library has ALL the Ohio Census (1820 to 1920). All current townships for Stark County were formed by 1850; Lawrence, Jackson, Lake, Plain, Marlboro, Lexington, Washington, Nimishillen, Osnaburg, Canton, Perry, Tuscarawas, Sugar Creek, Bethlehem, Pike, Sandy and Paris. In 1833 Rose, Brown and Harrison Twps were taken from Stark County to help form Carroll County: in 1840 Green and Franklin Twps were taken to help form Summit County. Massillon (formerly Kendal and Winterville) sits mostly on Perry Twp and part of Tuscarawas Twp and (now) a small part of Jackson Twp Canton sits mostly on Canton Twp and part of Plain Twp. North Canton (formerly New Berlin) sits on Plain Twp. East Canton (formerly Osnaburg) is in Osnaburg Twp. Alliance sits mostly on Lexington Twp and part of Washington Twp. Navarre is in Bethlehem Twp. Louisville is in Nimishillen Twp. Canal Fulton is in Lawrence Twp. Brewster, Wilmot and Beach City are in Sugar Creek Twp. East Sparta is in Pike Twp. Waynesburg and Magnolia is in Sandy Twp. Part of Magnolia is also in Carroll County. Minerva is in Paris Twp and and also Carroll County. Hartville, Greentown and Uniontown are in Lake Twp. Hope this helps. 3. Posted on: Stark Co. Oh Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Oh/Stark/12050 Surname: SNYDER, WARSTLER, GROSS, WARNER, GEISELMAN ------------------------- Phyllis, Thanks for your response. There seems to be a very strong possibility of a connection between these families. They both lived in the same area in the same time period. As mentioned in my first post, the 1880 Marlboro Twp. census shows Peter born in Ohio and parents in PA. Your Christina may likely be an older sister of Peter's. She also named a son Peter, although I am finding more than one Peter Snyder in Stark Co. so it seems to have been a common name for Snyder families. The birth and death dates of our Peter L. Snyder that I posted earlier seem to be incorrect. Most likely due to a typo or a misreading of an old document. I received a land deed for a sale of property from Peter L. Snyder and wife Priscilla dated September 30, 1885. The death date we had was April 15, 1885. The property was located in NIMISHILLAN Twp. >From all that we know Peter lived in Stark Co. all of his life based on information from both marriage records and the birth records of his children. However he does not show up on the Stark Co. census for 1850,1860, 1870 but he is in Marlboro Twp. in 1880. Can't find a source for the 1890 census for Stark. If anyone has one for 1890 or can direct me to the right website, I would really appreciate some help. Thanks!
