Not a very nice place. It was brick and dark on the outside. Never saw the inside. As a kid it was a place I remember that people feared. I don't live in Ohio anymore, so I'm sure someone else on this list will give more information than I can. Good luck Dee

    3. Massillon State Hospital was in existence until the 1970s, I believe. I volunteered there occasionally until 1972. Any records that survive, are probably filed with the State Mental Health Board or other statewide agency. i believe whatever remains on the property is called Massillon Psychiatric Clinic. No permanent residents that I know of. == The Website your boss doesn't want you to know about ! == www.ezinfocenter.com/1224802 ----- Original Message ----- From: "MARTI HALL" <MARTI623@aol.com> To: <OHSTARK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: 10 May, 2001 8:08 PM Subject: [OHSTARK] STATE OR MENTAL HOSPITAL AT MASSILLON,OH > Posted on: Stark Co. Oh Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Stark/12136 Surname: Leoffler, Rhodes ------------------------- RMyers, Thanks for your quick response. As do you, I am not sure your Leofflers are mine. You report Golinary Leoffler, who was born "mid ocean" was born about 1835. My MARY MAGDALENA LEOFFLER was born 4 May 1825, in Pennsylvania. At least that's where the 1860-1880 census records all report. Your Leofflers appears to stil be in Wurtemberg by 1825. Mary Magdalena m. my g-g-grandfather Joseph Rhodes in 1841, in Stark County, Ohio. I'll file your note away in my "Other Families" file and refer back as needed. Please let me know if you dig up anything else. Good luck in your own search! -- John

    1. [OHSTARK] question regarding 1850 census find
    2. Jim Zellers
    3. Hello, I was wondering if someone could give me some advice. I was looking thru the census on line and was very surprised to find a name that I never would of expected in Ohio. I have been researching the PELTAK family in New Hampshire for years. All my data is here in New England or over in Poland. I noticed that you had a John Peltak living in Stark County on the 1850 census (0441a.gif) How do I go about finding more information on him and his wife. Any suggestions would be helpful for a place to start. Do I go back or forward in the census?? he was 33 in 1850. Do I go another route? Thank you, Karen
