I have Harley F Cramer/Kramer d. 1926 buried at the Uniontown Cemetery. Would anyone have listings for this cemetery and check to see if his wife Sada Cramer/Kramer is buried with him. Thanks for any help Sue
the stark county poor house ( or farm ) was in canton ohio on cleveland ave. there is a post office there now. it sat way back up on a hill--i remember when i was a kid -it was probably empty then(60's) but my parents told me what it was. i was young but something about the place must have struck me that i still remember asking my parents about it. do a web search for stark county poorhouse or canton ohio poorhouse-- there is a web site about it. good luck [email protected] wrote: Hi everyone; Now that I have my death cert with some limited additional information. The cert has him listed with the Stark County House as his residence, no address. I have to assume this is the County "poor house" at that time. I did a look at the ward/district descriptions of Stark Cty in the 1920 census and was not able to determine where this is located. If someone could lead me to the correct ward/district, I will be grateful. thank you, marg ==== OHSTARK Mailing List ==== To receive the OHSTARK-L message board/gateway'd posts, click the following link: judi kramer
Maybe the Stark County Infirmary is the Stark County House. The census was taken on January 26, 1920. So if you person was not living there then this census won't help you. Let us know the name and death date. Lindsey [email protected] wrote on 11/9/2005, 4:44 PM: > Hi everyone; > > Now that I have my death cert with some limited additional > information. Our class visited the "Old Folks Home" on North Market St. I think it was near the Harter Estate which became the Art Institute. It was a large red brick building which must have been replaced by now. Hope my memory is still good. That was along time ago. Gary
The Stark County Home was located in plain Township I was looking through by browsing the Plain Twp., 1920 census I found the Stark County Infirmary so far not yet the county home. You do not give the name of the individual you are looking for??? Is it more an old aged home than a poor house? My ggg uncle died there I believe in the about 1925 it was in an outlying township but I can't locate his death cert right now to confirm it. Hi everyone; Now that I have my death cert with some limited additional information. I am still trying to figure out who my mystery person is. Now, it's up to 1944. Don't forget that if you find your people, you can request a copy from the Stark Co library. They have the death records through... um Dee help me, how many years do you have now? Never mind, here is what the lib page says: DEATHS Early Ohio Death Records - 1867-1908 (these are all OH counties-gin) Ohio - 1908-1948 (thought they were higher than that but may be wrong-gin) Stark Co library is cheaper and faster. http://www.starklibrary.org/ click on find it fast select genealogy on the drop down menu don't forget to check out the obituary indexes while you are there (for the Canton paper) might as well get the obit while getting the death certificate :) obits "usually" give more info the Massillon library also has an obituary index http://www.massillonlibrary.org/default4.htm then genealogy then obituary index for the Massillon paper I've found some Tuscarawas and Wayne Co obits on one or the other obit indexes for these papers. This is very true. I was at the OHS this last Thursday. I took printouts from the online database with me but found a number of errors on the certificate numbers that printed with the names I had for searched online. My d. certs that I needed were on the microfilm rolls but I had to skim each d. cert for the area I was searching to find the d. certs I needed. It is a lot less expensive to go there in person if you live close enough to the society and print the records yourself. 25 cents per printed record verses ordering them @ $7 each. Even with parking 2 $4 for the time you are there, you still come out way ahead if you have quite a few records to obtain. You can also contact the Akron Summit Co. Public Library at http://www.akronlibrary.org/main-sc.html. That link is for the Special Collections dept. We will make a copy and mail it to you for the cost of the copy and postage. Also, if you are not aware of it, the OH death certs through 1953 are now available at the Hist. Society, Stark, & ASCPL. You would need to send full info on your relative, name date of death, probable county. We can look it up in the microfilm index and then send a copy of the cert. Also ask them for the obituary. Once you find out the name of the place of burial then you contact them to find out if more family members are buried in same plot. I looked in 1920 census records and only found a John Burkheiser in Michigan not Ohio so without knowing his age can't say if it is him. Good Evening: Does anyone on the list know where I would look for church records for the German Baptist church of Stark County Ohio in the 1880's? Thank you for your help. Dianna
Marge, I checked the cases of the Stark County Probate Court where records are kept of wills, estate settlements, etc. Oddly, there are no BURKHEISERs listed. Here's the link: http://www.probate.co.stark.oh.us/search/search.html I also checked the Stark County Library's index of obituaries here: http://www.stark.lib.oh.us/obituariesindex1900.html. But, again, there were no BURKHEISERs listed for the years 1920-1924. I wonder if your John Burkheiser might have been a child. (?) Evening everyone, I just found someone with my surname in the State Death Index. As far as I know, I have nothing on this person. I will be sending for the death certificate tomorrow. Could someone lead me in the right direction to locate additional information. I would be interested in a copy of the death notice, location of the cemetery and whether there is anyone else buried there also. Name of wife and whatever information that would be available. Looking for: John BURKHEISER death date July 6, 1922 Stark County Volume 3927 Cert # 40364 Sorry I can't provide any more information. Any help is gratefully welcomed. Marge
