Thank you Shirley for the book index link. Alas, I found no clues there. The relative probably had no grave marker at all. She was age 3 when her father died & her mental problems were the result of being stomped by a cow as a young child. She had a son out of wedlock at age 17. Sadly, she was considered to be an embarrassment by most of her family even to her son who claimed he was never notified of her death. He has now also passed without issue. Guess I need to go to Stark County and look for her death certificate. Was Massillon Hosp in or outside the city limits? Nancy M. Donna, by any chance are the names on the back of the picture? If I am not mistaken, my grandmother and her siblings went there. You can e-mail me privately if you like. Fellow Researchers, The folks who died, 1944-1955 at the State Hospital in Massilon would have been buried in which cemetery? Is there an on-line photo of that facility? Any cemetery records? Some of my own CLAY & HOY ancestors lived in Franklin Twp. 1820-1844. In the early years it was part of Stark Co. It then became annexed to Summit Co. They lived in Berks Co. PA before that & then moved to JoDaviess Co. IL in 1844. Nancy Meyers

Sorry for the duplicate. I couldn't find you in my send list. How do I get this CD from 1789-1900. All my relatives are from Stark and Mahoning Counties. Alvin and Clara were married in Lexington Twp (I think) around 1881. Trying to find a marriage license. Derek - I did not find a Laura Whitmore in Stark County in 1930. I did find Laura Whittomore in Canton, Stark County, born in Ohio about 1861, age 69, widow. She had 2 sons living with her, Lauriston Whittomore age 27 born in Ohio and Marion Thompson, age 39 born in Ohio. The census was taken April 23, 1930. I don't know if this is who you are looking for but thought I would pass the information along. Oh, I forgot, I have an old picture of Brookfield School on the West end of Massillon and if I can find it the list of all or most of the kids. Must have been taken in 1918 or there abouts. Some of the kids in the picture didn't even go to school yet. Grades 1 through 6 or 8 I believe. It is a big picture. Donna North Lawrence, Oh
What school and what year are you looking for? I have some early photos of the Beach City School. I kow I've seen photos of other schools. Gin > Does anyone know how far back old school records go for Stark > County Ohio school children?
Dear Dianna, I would contact Jean Adkins the genealogist at the Massillon Library by google as I think the e-address is different than it was, or 833-832-9831 Ext 337. If it is not at the library she would know who to contact. Of course it may depend on if it was a private school or public. I know they have the ones who attended the high school but I don't know what they have done with the gradeschool and Junior High records. Of course you would have to contact the Catholic schools for that information and I don't know if they would do that. Donna North Lawrence, Ohio
To the list: Does anyone know how far back old school records go for Stark County Ohio school children? Thank you. Dianna
The Great Lakes Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists is sponsoring an Advanced Genealogy Discussion Group. The next meeting is on Saturday, January 21, 2006. The purpose of the group is to discuss advanced genealogical methodology as presented in case studies that have appeared in various scholarly genealogical publications. The group meets the third Saturday of the month, starting at 10:00 am, at one of the Akron-Summit County Public Library meeting rooms. The library is located at 60 South High St., Akron, OH. The meetings last about one and one-half hours. The discussions are free but pre-registration is required. Any experienced genealogical researcher is welcome to enroll. As a pre-requisite, participants should be familiar with Dr. William M. Litchman's article, "Teaching Analysis, Logic, and the Research Process: A Seminar Approach", from the NGS News Magazine, Nov/Dec 2000, pages 340-343. Each participant is requested to read several times, in advance of the meeting, the article to be discussed at the meeting. The article chosen for the January 21, 2006 discussion appeared in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, September 2005. It is titled "Social News as a Clue to Ancestry: Hester (nee Rogers) Cunningham of Virginia and West Virginia" beginning on page 165. To register, or for any questions, contact Donna Gruber at [email protected] or call (419) 846-3533.
Thanks, Ray, for those ideas. I will certainly try them. Another poster from another list gave me the hamburg passenger lists that I think are fairly recent. They were listed! First time have seen their name anywhere. You have to send to somewhere in Germany though to get the copy or full information. However, know for sure they did land in NY, so maybe I can still find something there.
