I will try to scan the picture I have but I think the best bet would be to have a photo copy made at the library and have it sent to you. I am not very good on this think so will do my best. I also have to send it by itself as I don't know how to attach it to this e-mail. I am computer illiterate. Donna North Lawrence.

Thank you to everyone who replied to my inguiry regarding school records. I greatly appreciate all the suggestions. If it is not at the library she would know who to contact. Of course it may depend on if it was a private school or public. I know they have the ones who attended the high school but I don't know what they have done with the gradeschool and Junior High records. Of course you would have to contact the Catholic schools for that information and I don't know if they would do that. Are you willing to share a scanned copy of the school picture for which you listed names. One of my ancestors was mentioned in your list. I have 3 class photos I would be willing to share but no names are listed other than my relatives. One is labeled Massillon HIgh School Class C (I am guessing it is circa 1900), another Massillon school photo (I think circa 1892), and a primary school photo circa 1888. anna Donna Cline <[email protected]> wrote: Dear Anna, Someone on the site asked how far back school records went and if there were any and where. I missed the beginning of this discussion on school names. Donna, are you offering copies of the Brookfield 1919 photo? What was the source of the photo? You mention that school photos are available at the Massillon library. What photos are you referring to? Thanks. anna Donna Cline <[email protected]> wrote: Unfortunately I have miss placed the list of names but will look for them and hopefully list them on here soon. The picture I have of Brookfield is 1919 and I have most of the names I think. Just saw the list a few days or a week ago so it can not have gone far. I used to be so organized and filled things so good. Guess old age is catching up to me and the mind is going too. But I have found a copy of a picture printed in The Massillon Independent newspaper in 1928 and the pictures are at the Massillon Library. They could be looked up there if you ask for a name. the pictures says SCHOOL MEMBERIES OF 1889 The Buyer's Guide continues to present reproductions of old school home pictures and this one is the seventh of the "School Memories" series. The above is an 1889 group and the Buyer's Guide understands that this represents the B. Grammer Class of North Street School. Lillian Uhlman, Teacher. No doubt many of these yougsters of thirty-nine years ago are still Massillonians. The scholars' names follow; Upper Row, standing (left to right) - Leo Von Kanel, Tom Sladden, Curt Duncan, Richard Powell, Otto Snyder, Chas. Stelling, Milton Porter, Herman Long, Robert Geis, Alfred Dielhenn. Middle Row -- Lillian Uhleman, teacher, Mayme Lighly, Carrie Crooks, Sara Wert, Anna Nill, Cora Pemberthy, Lola Paul, Mayme Oberlin, Edith Keller, Helen Smith. Lower ro -- Edwin Howald, Louis Schimke, Nellie Giltz, Bertha Snyder, Nellie Evans, Anna Moylan, Wm. Clark, Edward Hickox, Harry Haring. There was another picture publish below it for A and B -- Secondary (4th grade) -- North Street School, Miss Merwin, teacher. But it asks for Names to be furnished for the publication the next week. Sorry I can not find the names for the Brookfield school picture but I will. I know some of the names were Borrel, Daniels, Schwartz, and Feit. Donna North Lawrence, OH
If the people in the State Hospital had relatives they buried them in what ever cemetery they wanted. I do volunteer work for our Genealogy Group putting the obits on line and have seen where they may have been taken back to the town they had lived in previously. Some of my relatives when to their home church being Catholic and others went to the Massillon Cemetery if there was no one but the state to bury them. They are in the potters fields with no head stones but the records are in the Massillon Cemetery records. In potters field I have been told they were not allowed to have head stones. The state wasn't going to pay for them. Sometimes as one man did you have to end up going to the record office at the cemetery and do the look up with the help of a very nice lady that works there. She will give you a map and numbers. He had to go back several times until he found the correct round little marker they place beside and usually now covered with dirt beside each plot. Go to the Massillon public library site and glick on obits at the top right hand side. There is also a genealogy site but that is links to other sites. Jean Adkins e-mail address is in there and she would do look ups and snail mail the obit to you. Which would give you what ever information was available. Jean is great help with all this. She gets so into the hunt that I would call her a great detective. Donna North Lawrence, OH
Hi Rita, I am attaching the information I have on an Alfredo Paone. I'm not sure if it is the same one that you are looking for, but the dates seem to match. Much of this information I got from another researcher's notes, so I did not verify all the information myself. Some information came from the Alliance City Health Department records. Based on the immigration date, the marriage you are looking for took place in Italy. The locations in Italy should help you track down more information. Good luck in your research, Michelle Dillon Descendants of Alfredo Paone 1. ALFREDO1 PAONE was born July 05, 1880 in Calabria/Castelbaronia, IT1, and died July 31, 1964 in Canton, OH1. I don't know which cemetery a person who died in Massillon State Hospital. I have two ancestors who died there and they are buried in different cemeteries. To my knowledge the hospital did not have their own cemetery but someone else on the list is probably more familiar with that aspect. You might check our Stark Co Cemeteries index online for the name(s) to see if they are buried in Stark. If you find them, put a query out stating their name, volume number, and page number and I'm sure someone will look up for you - myself included. Here is the Rootsweb site where the index is posted. Just put the surname in and click on Search. http://userdb.rootsweb.com/bookindexes/ I have been told Ohio Historical Society in Columbus, OH has the records from the hospital but I haven't followed up yet. Is there an on-line photo of that facility? Any cemetery records? Some of my own CLAY & HOY ancestors lived in Franklin Twp. 1820-1844. In the early years it was part of Stark Co. It then became annexed to Summit Co. They lived in Berks Co. PA before that & then moved to JoDaviess Co. IL in 1844. Nancy Meyers
