Sorry I didn't think of this the first time as, I thought that George's wife was buried in Arkansas where she died. Turns out that she's buried with George in Canton. If someone is able to find the info on George W. Lentz (see below), can you also post the info on his wife, Mabel? According to the index, she's on the same page, 106 in Vol. 5. These are my gr-grandparents, so I'm gathering all I can on them. Thanks much! Hello to the list. Thanks to Shirley, I've found a listing in the index of Stark County Cemetery Inscriptions. Can someone please do a lookup for me? I've already make one request this week to the Stark Cty. Library, so I didn't want to send another so soon. #1 I recently sent along some 1930 Census information to someone who asked about a listing for a person (woman) in the 1930 Census. I, then, deleted the information; however, I am wondering if the person was able to use the information sent. #2 Regarding the Young family of Lancaster Co. PA and Stark Co. OH: Jacob Young was born in Lancater Co. PA about 1782. Jacob Young married Maria Salome Cassler, probably, about 1803, in PA. The family seems to have lived in Warwick Twp. in Lancaster Co. Their first child, William Young, was born in 1805 in Lancaster Co. There were 7 children born to this couple: WILLIAM YOUNG JOSEPH YOUNG SARAH YOUNG SAMUEL YOUNG JACOB YOUNG, JR. LUCY YOUNG CYRUS YOUNG Salome (Cassler) Young died about 1823/24. Her widower remarried in 1825 to Susanna Miller. She seems to have died before 1850. Jacob Young is shown living with his daughter, Sarah, and her family, in the 1850 Census of Warwick Twp. Lancaster Co. By 1860, Jacob Young had moved to Stark Co. with two of his sons: Samuel, his son by Salome (Cassler) Young; and Curtis M. Young, his son by Susanna (Miller) Young. Curtis M. Young was born in 1826 in PA. Samuel Young married Susan Fouser. I would like to hear from anyone who might be working on this family. Thank you. M. Garrison
Carol, Could you please lookup a marriage of John (Johann Georg) THUMM between 1860-1870: He is listed in the 1860 Census (9Jun1860) as a resident of Lawrence Township, Tuscarawas County OH-It very well could have been Zoar-owned land, they were very close to town; the Thumm residence was counted as #187; the Zoar census starts with the #218 house counted. : John G. THUME(sic) 46, farm laborer; Wuerttemberg Margaret THUME(sic) 48; Wuerttemberg John THUMM 17; Jacob THUMM 16; Elizabeth THUMM 13, in school; Godfried THUMM 8, in school The church records from St. Paul's in Navarre were transcribed & printed in book form in 1967 by a Fayne Harter. There are no THUMMs listed in the index however - the confirmation records show (listed in the index as TRUMM) a George THUMM, born Sept. 9, 1842(confirmed 3/16/1856). The book had Trumm in the index, Thumm on that page. This finding listed as Georg TRUMM(sic) in St. Paul's United Church of Christ records in Navarre, Stark County OH; confirmation documented on 16Mar1856 (birth recorded 9/9/42 Wuerttemberg) coincides with German church records for the birth date of Johann Georg THUMM. He is found in the 1870 OH CENSUS: Seneca County, 1st Ward, city of Tiffin, Clinton Township (recorded on 19Jul1870) - John was living in the same household (dwelling #348) as: Phillip YUNK age 28 (owner of the property), occupation: tanner, b France of foreign born parents Adeline age 23 keeping house Frederick age 3 b OH Cora age 2 b OH John THUM age 27, occupation: tanner - listed as citizen of US, b Wurttemberg of foreign parents Christina age 25, wife Margaret age 3, b OH Lizzie age 1, b OH Tom THUMM

Dear Carmen Finley, Contact the Stark County District Library or the Massillon Public Library they are both excellent sources and I would be happy to go and take a picture for you and sent it to you. Just google the sites. Donna North Lawrence, OH
There is an Armstrong Cemetery in Stark County that is shown in the area of Brewster, Massillon, and Navarre. Does anyone know if the tombstones there have been transcribed. If so, how could I get a copy? Carmen Finley
This probate abstract for Robert Armstrong was found. 1820 PROBATE: "Armstrong, Robert - dated 10-30-1820. Wife, Ezabella. Sons:- Robert, William, John, George and James. Duaghters:- Elisabeth Shepherd, Mary Adaway, Ann Henderson and Ezabella. Executor:- Joseph Shepherd. Signed:- Robert Armstrong, Witnesses:- Charles Patch, George Armstrong and Harvy Shoemaker. Carmen Finley Santa Rosa, CA
I would suggest you contact Stark County District Library via their website for these records. http://www.starklibrary.org/genealogyservices.html Go down to center of page and click on Request Forms. The library does not charge a fee - only copy cost and postage. They will enclose an invoice with record(s) copy. The 1910 census indicated that they had been married 7 years, so the date of their marriage would be around 1903. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Go to the Stark County District Library website www.starklibrary.org/genealogyservices.html click on library services then click on Genealogy services. Read the paragraph under the pictures and you will see e-mail message. Click on that and put in your request for the obituary and they will email you for information if they find it and mail it to you. It only costs $1.00 last time I asked for an obituary. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, December 23, 2005 9:59 AM Subject: [OHSTARK] How do I get an obit?...year 1962 > Hello, > > I am wondering how do I get an obit for the year 1962? Dear Ila Oh, did I mention that the Canal comes right close to Crystal Springs and he probably did work on the canal. Lots of people did work there at that time. Donna North Lawrence, OH
As Corresponding Secretary for Stark County Genealogical Society, I temporarily have Stark Co., OH marriage publications by Alliance Genealogical Society covering 1809-1870. I checked for Alvin Miller and Clara Sebrell but found no record. I also checked Stark Co. Probate records online but found no record. http://www.probate.co.stark.oh.us/search/search.html If you have an estimated timeframe, you can contact the Stark County District Library. They have marriages 1809-1986 with index to same 1809-1972. http://www.starklibrary.org/genealogyservices.html Perhaps Carol will have better luck for you. Carole, Don't know how I missed this the first time around. I have been searching a couple years for the marriages of Jacob OSWALT. There is a marriage of Jacob OSWALT to Catherine WAGGONER in Stark County, OH, early 1800s I believe. But, there are records of another Jacob OSWALT b. 1765 in Bedford County, PA m. to Catherine STOVER, also b. PA. Research and information from others show that Jacob OSWALT and Catherine migrated to Montgomery County, and Massillon, Stark County, OH in the early 1800s. Jacob OSWALT and Catherine, then migrated to Darke County, Ohio where they subsequently died, he 1833, she 1835, probably in cholera epidemic. These are my gggrandparents, but I have not been able to determine which Catherine - WAGGONER or STOVER - is the Catherine who died in Darke County. Also, I have been unable to determine if Joseph b. 1765, Bedford county, was twice married to Catherines, or if these are a father and son who each married the a Catherine's. Any help you can give me on Ohio marriages of any Jacob OSWALT would be helpful. Thanks so much for your kindness. Regards, Jan Ask me about hypnotherapy or Reiki for pain relief, healing energy, spiritual emergency, past life regression
I am asking a friend who may be able to find out where the North Lawrence Records are located and if they are available. Donna North Lawrence, OH
I wonder if you contact the Lawrence School Board if they might have the records of the North Lawrence, School. It should be located in the Tuslaw High school or at least they would know where they are, I think. I know the Shear's attended and the Singers. Donna L. Cline
Sorry, still looking for the 1919 names on the picture for the Brookfield school. If I can't find it I believe my aunt has it. Donna North Lawrence, OH
Dear Ila, While attending the Summer on Fourth Street festivities which I would encourage everyone to attend next July as it is wonderful, I got a wonderful huge map and other pictures of the 110 mile canal system. It gives individual pictures of with numbers that shows the location and a short discription of each place from the Ohio and Erie Canal Association 330=434-5657 WWW.ohioeriecanal.org It is on a water proof plastic and gives 43 locations. Map key and I think I only paid $15.00 for it. I can not say enough about this wonderful Ohio & Erie Canal map. Of course you know where it is in Canal Fulton and there is a wonderful walking and bike path and a horse trail in some parts which runs along side most of the way and it follows the Tusc river. There are parts of it that no longer exist. As it ends just before Lake Avenue N.E. and goes under Massillon and starts up again somewhere South of Massillon.. It extends from Lake Erie all the way Schoenbrunn on this map but goes clear to the Ohio River. Our genealogy group at the Massillon Public Library had a man come and speak to us about his venture finding all the lost locks and walking the entire length. He even went into an old building and found the canal walls still there. He was at our Genealogy Fair this summer we held. Maybe I can find out if the Ohio & Erie Canal Association will be represented again this year at the Summer on Fourth Street. Wagons drawn by horses and mules are there. People in period clothing which ranges from 1820 to 1930's are there. Once they had a civil war camp set up. A local funeral director has a horse drawn hearse there and he is dressed for the occation. Great food and lots of different groups have been represented. Dulcimer music, Sweet Adelines, Clinton Historical group and so many I can not even begin to tell you are there. It is the greatest. Our group hopes to be represented there again in 2006.
