Shirley, Thank you again! The staff at Stark County Library was blazingly fast. I received George's obit last night - it only took them about 4 days. I expected it to take much longer and was pleasantly surprised to receive it so soon. The obit contained a photo, but the quality was so bad I couldn't see him. I learned the names of 4 of his siblings via the obit, so it was definitely worth ordering. ; ) Yes, this is Mabel's death record. This is the one that tipped me off that she may have been visiting or living with her son in Arkansas when she died. I haven't found any further info on her yet. I'll contact the library again soon & request the obit. Oops, Just realized, wrong timeframe, Edythe. Sorry Susan Osburn
Edythe, Could you check for a marriage between John M. Osburn and Jeannette V. Mathias, ca. 1901, in Stark County?? Thanks so much, Susan Osburn
I don't know if you know this or not but google ohio death index and you will find it on line for years 1913-1945 in case that is the period of time she passed. Alas, I found no clues there. The relative probably had no grave marker at all. She was age 3 when her father died & her mental problems were the result of being stomped by a cow as a young child. She had a son out of wedlock at age 17. Sadly, she was considered to be an embarrassment by most of her family even to her son who claimed he was never notified of her death. He has now also passed without issue. Guess I need to go to Stark County and look for her death certificate. Was Massillon Hosp in or outside the city limits? Nancy M. I don't know what timeframe you are working with but if she died in Massillon, you need to contact Massillon Health Dept. Although Stark County District Library [Canton] has microfilm of "all" 88 Ohio counties from 1908 to 1944 - might be later now as they are trying to get up to 1954 which would match their index. If you have death date, email the Canton library via their Request Forms on their website. Massillon Community Hospital is within Massillon City Limits Massillon State Hospital is no longer operating as such but I believe it was in city limits as well. You might try checking Massillon Public Library's obituary index: http://www.massillonlibrary.org/dept/obits.htm Shirley In a message dated 2/1/2006 9:22:46 AM Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Thank you Shirley for the book index link. Hello All, My only hope of finding my great grandmother lies in finding 2 sisters who are from Canton, Ohio. My great grandmother's daughter was Bessie Maria Diamond, born in Prince Edward Island, Canada in 1873. Bessie married Amos W. Warnock, as his second wife. Bessie Diamond Warnock raised her stepdaughter, Marion C. Warnock who waw born in Massachusetts in 1905. Marion C. Warnock married Eugene Hall NIXON, moved to Canton, Stark County, Ohio and had Marsha NIXON and Heather Gail NIXON. Marion died in Stark County in 1973. Bessie Diamond Warnock in her old age lived with Marion Warnock Nixon in Ohio. I am trying to locate Marsha or Heather Nixon both born late 1940's or early 1950's. I am hoping that these two women hold the clues to finding my great grandmother. Is anyone on the list able to look at Canton, Ohio records? Marriage records for the girls? to find name changes etc? Any ideas welcome. Cynthia in Massachusetts
