Hi Listers, I've found an index reference for my Gr-Gr-Grandfather's declaration of intention (or naturalization). I'm wondering if anyone has a resource to do a lookup on it (other than making a request through the library, which I'll do if necessary). I'm interested in any info contained, specifically his birthplace, parents' names, etc. Any advice or direction appreciated. Here's what I've found on Ancestry: Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1500s-1900s Record info about Charles Floom: Name: Charles Floom Year: 1809-1852 Place: Ohio Source Publication Code: 4511.35 Primary Immigrant: Floom, Charles Annotation: Date and place of declaration of intention or of naturalization. Extracted from Stark County Common Pleas Journals, on microfilm at the Stark County District Library. Page reference to original record is also provided. Source Bibliography: LANDIS, LAUREN K. Index to the Naturalization Records of Stark County, Ohio (1809-1852). Canton, OH: The Stark County District Library, 1994. 62p. Page: 14 Since Charles is listed as "Primary Immigrant", I'm also interested to learn who else he might have traveled with & what ship they arrived on. Family lore claims he traveled with Francis X. FLOOM (Pflume?) - who could have been a brother or uncle. Many thanks in advance for any assistance, Mercedes in Arizona Happily researching Farley's of Ireland, PA & OH. Flooms of Germany & OH, Lentz's in IN & OH. Savage's of Co. Durham, England. Massi's & Manzo's of Italy and NY. Allen's & Edwards' in Ont., CAN and more.

I had a g-g-grandmother who died at Massillon State Hospital, plus one of her sisters, and they were buried in different cemeteries - probably by their families. Laterally, I've found later deaths [1940s and 1960s] at the hospital and they were also buried in Massillon City Cemetery, St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, and St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. If you have full death date, contact the Stark County District Library for a copy of the death record which should show place of burial. The library now has death index and death records for all 88 Ohio counties through 1953. Go to their website and click on Request Forms and follow directions. They will mail an invoice back to you with the copies - cost is very low. Don't forget the Stark Genealogical Society indexed all of the cemetery volumes which is now posted to Rootsweb - http://userdb.rootsweb.com/bookindexes/ Go down to the block and enter surname and then click on Search. If you find correct person, it will show Cemetery Volume and Page Number. Once you get that you can request information from that page. You can request from the Library, the Society, or on this Stark List and I'm sure someone will reply - myself included. Most people who had no family or the family had no money were buried in potters field of which I believe there are three or four at the Massillon Cemetery. Doesn't matter what year the people died at the State Hospital. Only cemetery possible unless they were taken back to their home city by family or placed in some other cemetery of the family's choosing. Donna North Lawrence.

Hello, I am trying to find a marriage date for Lois Stokey born 1923 and they lived in Canton. I am needing to find her if she still might be alive..........need to contact her for a DNA testing for Native American Indian. She is the last that I know of, of a female line. Any help is appreciated. Don't know if she was ever married but if she did, I would expect the years between 1940-1950. jamie
Note we will meet in the Akron Library Special Collections room in February. The Great Lakes Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists is sponsoring an Advanced Genealogy Discussion Group. The next meeting is on Saturday, February 18, 2006. The purpose of the group is to discuss advanced genealogical methodology as presented in case studies that have appeared in various scholarly genealogical publications. The group meets the third Saturday of the month, starting at 10:00 am, at one of the Akron-Summit County Public Library. The library is located at 60 South High St., Akron, OH. The meetings last about one and one-half hours. The discussions are free but pre-registration is required. Any experienced genealogical researcher is welcome to enroll. As a pre-requisite, participants should be familiar with Dr. William M. Litchman's article, "Teaching Analysis, Logic, and the Research Process: A Seminar Approach", from the NGS News Magazine, Nov/Dec 2000, pages 340-343. Each participant is requested to read several times, in advance of the meeting, the article to be discussed at the meeting. The article chosen for the February 18, 2006 discussion appeared in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, September 2005. It is titled "The Visit of John Adams Unlocks the Door to Clayton Stafford's Lineage" beginning on page 177. To register, or for any questions, contact Donna Gruber at [email protected] or call (419) 846-3533.
I am looking for information on two brothers, Joseph and Henry PATATA (may have various spellings, such as PATETI or POTATO or even PATETTHA). They were born in the area of Leetonia, in Columbiana County of an Italian father (Charles PATATA) and an Irish mother (Bridget LUDDEN). Henry was born 27 December 1890. Joseph was born around 1896. They spent some time in Detroit, Michigan and in Canton, OH. At the time of his grandmother's funeral in 1921, Henry was still in Canton. Any information about these two would be greatly appreciated.
Looking for the family of Laura Dingledine and Philip Thompson. Philip died or divorced after 1900 and before 1910 One of thier sons was Errett that lived in Navarre in 1957 when Laura died. There is a reference to 'Mike Horner' in the diary of great grampa, Frederick Hartline. He was a farm hand in his employ in 1882. No other reference as to his identity was written. . . . I have a Gilbert book published in 1980 by a Lael O. Gilbert. My gg grandmother was a Gilbert from western PA. There is only one mention of a John Heinrich Gilbert born about 1789 in PA (either Berks or Philadelphia COunty). He was not of my direct line which another brother moved onto to Schuykill County PA where those sons were born about 1840's. I will look up more later.
