Does anyone have any of these folks in their database: Bernice Fisher - Mary Richards - Dorothy Black? At this point I have only an undated photo of 4 females who appear to be wearing student nurses' uniforms and three of the four are identified by the above-mentioned names on the back of the photo. I'm trying to determine if possibly the fourth female identified as "me" is my paternal grandmother, Clara G. Eaton, who was born Lawrence Co., OH 1894 and is found on every Census except the 1920 Census. I have found a Bernice Fisher on the 1920 Census as a student nurse at Aultman Nursing School in Canton, Stark Co., OH. Whether it is the same Bernice Fisher as the female in the photo and whether or not the Bernice Fisher on the 1920 Census was born in Canton, I have no idea. Were these folks even in OH when the photo was taken? I don't know that either. I have sent an email to Aultman School of Nursing inquiring as to whether or not they have a listing of past student nurses. In case this doesn't pan out, does anyone know where else I might find a listing of past student nurses at this school? I'm hoping to find someone who can give me a little more info about any of these females in the photo or additional info about the nursing school which just might help me in finding my grandmo. between 1911 when my father was born (adopted later by his maternal grandparents) and the late 1920's when my grandmo. entered Ohio State University. I realize there isn't a lot to go on here, but it's all I have at the moment. Any assistance/suggestions are most welcome. Thanks so much. Regards, Nancy Edwards [email protected]
You might check w/ a local realtor who may have a picture if the house was "on the market" previously. Also the county auditor's office. They are the ones who "certify" the taxes... Sanborn Maps are also a possibility. In answer to where is Louisville I found this reference: Louisville - The Way It was 1834-1975. By Kenneth R. Smith. Daring Books, Canton, Ohio. Published in 1984. 253 pages. History of Louisville, Ohio. Edited by Laura Graham Wolf (University of Akron.) Black-and-white photographs. White softcover. You could check any bookstores, but I found this (only one) on ebay for $40.00. Also, in 1960 Marlington High School was the high school. Have fun! Donna
Thanks, Marilyn! Kathy

I am hoping someone on this list is familiar enough with the city of Alliance to be able to tell me what is now situated on the southeast corner of Arch and Oxford Streets. My ancestor Mary Knox was living there when she died in 1898 and I was just wondering if the house might still be standing. Thanks! Kathy
Thanks for your response. I don't have a clue! Perhaps it was a friend. No, the writing is quite clear. I have never heard of this surname connected to my family, so it must be friends. Thanks to everyone who commented on this request. Hi Becky, Thanks for the information. I thought it strange that the name Jones was written after the street name. I haven't been in Ohio for many, many years but I do have some friends or family in Louisville, Fairhope, Middlebranch, etc. It's funny but I don't remember where any of those places are. I do remember No. Canton, Lake Cable, Lake O' Springs and Meyer's Lake, I went to West North grade school and McKinley High School. My brother has visited Canton often over the years. I really should try to get back there again. Gary
Gary, I read with interest your comment about the postcard from Louisville, OH. I live in Louisville. We do have an Edwards St. There is a book out about the history of Louisville if you are interested. It is written by a history teacher from Louisville. It is called, "Louisville - The Way it Was 1834 - 1975 written by Kenneth R. Smith. Hi all. I have a postcard picture from 1905 of my grandfather, addressed to my grandmother. The address is: her name, Edward St. Jones, Louisville, Ohio. Louisville is east of Canton and am wondering if Edward St. Jones is a street, a school or ? If anyone has a city directory of the area or just happens to know what this address is, would like to know. I can't imagine why she would have been in Louisville! Born and raised in Cleveland and this was before their marriage in 1908. Thank you. Carole in Georgia

Shirley Thanks for your help. I put the wrong dates. I mixed up two different families. The dates were from my husbands side and I had both books out.. The Edwin you found was correct for the Miller side of the family. Stark County Cemetery Inscriptions, Volume 1, Page 41 Lexington Township, Alliance City Cemetery: Edwin H. Miller - 1833-1905 Susan Miller - 1836-1896 With those dates compared to your information, they cannot be whom you are looking for. He is the only Edwin shown in Alliance Cemetery but does not mean your Edwin is not buried there with no headstone. It appears you will need to find their deaths. There should be a microfilm showing deaths registered for 1867-1908 for Mahoning County or perhaps Mahoning County Genealogical Society or Historical Society has transcribed them. Perhaps you can utilize a nearby Family History Center [LDS]? Patsy, I don't show your Miller's in Alliance City Cem. The Edwin H. Miller who is buried there died in 1905 at age 71 and that would put his birth around 1834. There are 2 Susan Millers buried there: 1) d. 1896 at age 59; approx. b. 1837; 2) d. 1906 at age 39. Am looking thru my other book to see if they are in another cemetery. Will let you know what I find. Patsy, I only have access to the Alliance City Cemetery Inscriptions Every Name Index and it does not give death dates but does list an Edwin H. Miller and a Susan Miller as being buried there. You can check with the Stark Co. Library for cemetery inscriptions which will have death dates. They might also have the obituaries that you seek as well. Their site is http://www.stark.lib.oh.us/genealogyservices.html Hope that this helps Kay in California
Yes, the is buried in Alliance, plot G40; not sure about her. On Monday, May 15, 2006, at 01:56 PM, Patsy wrote: > Sorry, I put the wrong name in the body of the e-mail.
