    3. Hi Carole, Wonder if the Stark co library would be interested in receiving it or at least a copy for future researchers... Donna -----Original Message----- From: carole lubbers [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, July 12, 2006 6:09 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [OHSTARK] Henry C. Robinson, Co. K 110th Infantry Hi all! I received the military file for the above person and it was not for my family. The company muster roll dated 8 Dec 1862 shows this man to be 23years of age. Born in Summit Co. and his occupation was a teacher. He died as a prisoner of war in Andersonville, Ga. 25 July 1864. Be happy to send this file to anyone who is interested. 3. I have an old picture of a young woman with the inscription " Jesse Spies to Cousin Susie" Cousin Susie was my grandmother Susie Mae BOYER, b. 1886 in Wayne County. However, her family later moved to Stark County. Her mother's maiden name was GROFF. The BOYERS moved west to Washington about 1900. This picture is probably of that time period, give or take a couple of years. Does anyone know the connection between the SPIES,and BOYERs or GROFFs? Other extended families were TAYLOR, SHOWALTER Thanks

    2. Just reread your post - and it occurred to me that most of us who subscribe to this list have ancestral connections and information in early Stark County/Ohio. You didn't include any names! Could be there is even someone here who is checking the same line. 1. Re: [OHSTARK] Questions
    2. Remember that Ohio did not become a state until 1803 - and the area was not open to settlement until after the American Revolution. Most settlers to Ohio in the late 18th C and early 19C were born in other states. Below is an url where you can read about Ohio's history. I've also copied and pasted an example. Regards, Jan T http://www.ohiohistorycentral.org/entry.php?rec=772 Ohio History Central » History » Places » Northwest Territory Northwest Territory Related Entries Confederation Congress Northwest Ordinance Ohio Ohio Statehood On July 13, 1787, the Confederation Congress passed the Northwest Ordinance. The act created the Northwest Territory. It also established a government and specified how the various parts of the Northwest Territory would become states. The Northwest Ordinance stipulated the creation of at least three but not more than five states out of the Northwest Territory. The first state to be formed from the Northwest Territory was Ohio, the seventeenth state of the United States of America. While the United States government had now established how the Northwest Territory would be governed, Native Americans living in the area refused to acknowledge American control of the region. From the Northwest Territory's creation in 1787 until Ohio statehood in 1803, bloodshed between white settlers and the Indians characterized the American Northwest. 2. Ohio did not begin recording births [or deaths] until 1867. Stark County District Library will probably be able to help on copy of the 1823 marriage record but bear in mind typically there is little information on early marriages. Parents were not shown until ca 1909 marriages but it's worth getting a copy. You can request directly online to the library: http://www.starklibrary.org/genealogyservices.html Click on Request Forms. Does Ohio have birth certificates that far back? Will the library be able to help or should I go to the state? This person was married in 1823 can I get his marriage license? I already have the certification from the minister. I'm looking for the names of his parents. Thanks, Barb Chandler

    3. Donna; Sorry it took so long to respond to your e-mail. I was waiting to get further information from one of the surviving family members. It appears that there are three Burds in the Brookfield Cemetery. If you can Photo them for me I will reimburse your expenses. David F. Burd d-12/26/66 Herman Burd d-?? Loretta (Burd) Williams 2nd marriage to Ray Williams dates for Herman and Loretta are not available at this time. In your position in the Geneaology Section of the library ,Do you have access to the news papers that would have carried the obituaries for these family members?? I would be interested in the obit s also if possible. Thanks for your assistance.
