The Great Lakes Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists is sponsoring an Advanced Genealogy Discussion Group. The next meeting is on Saturday, September 16, 2006. The purpose of the group is to discuss advanced genealogical methodology as presented in case studies that have appeared in various scholarly genealogical publications. The group meets the third Saturday of the month, starting at 10:00 am, at one of the Akron-Summit County Public Library meeting rooms. The library is located at 60 South High St., Akron, OH. The meetings last about one and one-half hours. The discussions are free but pre-registration is required. Any experienced genealogical researcher is welcome to enroll. As a pre-requisite, participants should be familiar with Dr. William M. Litchman's article, "Teaching Analysis, Logic, and the Research Process: A Seminar Approach", from the NGS News Magazine, Nov/Dec 2000, pages 340-343. Each participant is requested to read several times, in advance of the meeting, the article to be discussed at the meeting. The article chosen for the September 16, 2006 discussion appeared in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, March 2006. It is titled "A Case of Mistaken Racial Identity: Finding Emma Dunham (nee Kelly) Hawkins" beginning on page 5. To register, or for any questions, contact Donna Gruber at [email protected] or call (419) 846-3533.

I looked under probate records in Stark County and there is no listing of Herman Green dying. I also looked in the phone book and no one is listed. Sorry. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, August 10, 2006 6:20 PM Subject: Re: [OHSTARK] Newspapers >I am trying to help my dad find an old buddy of his, Herman Eugene Green. > Now last know record of him is in Canton on Roosevelt Street 2003. Hello Donna, The index is available online. Here is the link: www.ohiofamilysearch.org/ If the link does not work go to massillonlibrary.org and follow the genealogy links. It is a volunteer work in progress with approximately 90,000 names indexed from the Massillon Evening Independent itself with 3 other Ohio counties included. The Independent index covers obits from 1863 to present with an unrecoverable gap from 1873 to 188?. Yes, there was a newspaper fire. Hope this helps. Karen - If you're unsuccessful in finding someone local to get a copy of the obit for you, another thing to consider is checking the Ohio Historical Society's newspapers available for interlibrary loan. If they have the issue you want on microfilm, then you can rent it ($3) through your local public library and view it and make a copy there. Hope this is helpful. Looking for information on newspapers in the area. Would like to find an obit for Josiah W. Arthur who died in Stark County 10/1/1937. Is there anyone in the area willing to do lookups? Would like his obit and also where he is buried. Thanks, Karen
There is an obituary for Dr. Josiah Arthur who died 3 October 1937 in the Canton Repository. It is on page 36. This obituary can be obtained from the Stark County Library genealogy dept at http://www.starklibrary.org/genealogyservices.html They will answer your request and send it to you by mail and they will charge you approximately $1.50 or so for this service. They are the very best library that I have ever run across in genealogy. Well, also the Massillon Library, too. good luck --- [email protected] wrote: > Looking for information on newspapers in the area. > Would like to find an > obit for Josiah W. Since Hartville is in Stark County but also on county line for Summit County, I would suggest you contact the Stark County District Library as well as the Akron-Summit Main Library, if you have actual full date. If you only have the month and year, Ancestry.com should have date in their database. If you are not a member, give me the full name and I will look it up for you. I'm looking for info on my grandfathers family. The last name has been--Minocchio(1910 census), Minorca(1920 census), Minochi, Minnochio, and finally, Minock. My grandfather's name was Ralph Minock(b. 1908 in PA, d.1976 in Mansfield, OH), his father was John Michael Minock(died1957, Canton, OH). John immigrated from Italy in 1903. Ralph married Lenora Wallingford, daughter of Charles Wallingford(b. 1882, d. 1941 in Canton) and Mary Richardson(b. 1900, d. 1983). Ralph and Lenora later moved to Mansfield, OH. I would love to hear from any relatives, and I will share what I know.
