    1. [OHSHELBY] FLINNs again!

    3. Thanks to all who have been aiding in helping to identify family connections. I note that many of you connect to the William FLINN below, yet none appear to mention Stephen FLINN out of NJ who married a Sarah "Sally". I wish I could find a family connection between him and William as they were both in Columbia Twp., Hamilton Co., OH and had descendants in Shelby Co., OH. This is the line I appear interconnected with. See explanation below. 1. William FLINN b. Ireland d. 1793 at Cincinnati, OH Unknown spouse 2. Captain James FLINN b. Ireland d. Abt 23 Jan 1823 at Ft. Loramie, OH m. Jane NEWELL 27 Jun 1790 at Columbia Twp., Hamilton Co., OH One Mary MILLS married 1841 Shelby Co., OH to a Stephen FLINN. I do not know what happened to this couple. Mary is tentatively identified by me as a dau/o William W. MILLS & #1 Elizabeth CLARK from NJ to Hamilton Co., OH, then Warren Co., OH, then Cynthian Twp., Shelby Co., OH. Now, William W. MILLS m a second wife after Elizabeth died, named Joanna FLINN, and they lived for a time in Shelby Co., OH and finally in Miami Co., OH. I think I have identified Joanna as a dau/o Stephen FLINN & Sally ??? who are mentioned in John Littell's book, "Family Records or Genealogies of the First Settlers of Passaic Valley (and Vicinity) above Chatham," of 1852. Here Stephen and Sally are mentioned as the parents of: Joanna, James, David, Vincent, Jesse, Moses, & William. Then evidently Sally dies and Stephen is mentioned as marrying 1822 Hamilton Co., OH to Joanna SMEDLEY and had Sarah and Sabra both of whom died young. Stephen (wives, Sally and Joanna) is said according to the book to be dau/o David FLINN who had a son, Benjamin, by a first wife, and then married #2 Lydia LITTELL and had Stephen (wives, Sally & Joanna), Lydia, & Susanna. As you can see I have very limited dates on this FLINN family. Then, a CLAWSON family adopted a grandson and granddaughter of William W. MILLS and I see that surname among some of your histories in connection with the William FLINN b Ireland family mentioned by some of you. So, my one question is what is the proof that William FLINN and his son, James, were really born in Ireland as stated; or could Stephen FLINN out of NJ also be related, since the men were in the same place around the same early time period since Columbia Twp., Hamilton Co., OH wasn't being settled until 1788 by numerous families from NJ because of Benjamin Stites out of NJ and PA & the SYMMES PURCHASE of NJ of the Miami Valley. Perhaps William is really son of Stephen who is son of the David of NJ. If anyone has a reference or vital record that states William was born in Ireland and his son James also, I would love to know the reference. As I see it, then William would have come to Hamilton Co., OH immediately after its settlement to have died in 1793 when it was but a howling wilderness, which would have not the place for a newly arrived immigrant family probably in those days. Anyone following this FLINN family might want to delve into this a little more, and find more proof of William FLINN's nativity. I just can't believe that my MILLS family who married in to the FLINN family who are also buried in Houston Cemetery are not related in some manner, SINCE both came out of the same area of Hamilton Co. and ended up in the same area of Shelby Co., OH. To me there are interconnections yet to be found. Now, I will stop rattling on, and hope that someone can solve this relationship dilemma for me. Thanks to all of you who have shared information. Audrey
