Stallostown was founded by Franz Joseph Stallo in 1832-1833. It was originally part of Mercer County but became a part of Auglaize County. Stallostown changed its name to Minster in 1836. St. Augusine's is the Catholic church in Minster. "Stallo drew a plat which divided the 640 acres into 144 numbered shares. Seventy-two shares were laid out east of Main Street, the central divider; and seventy-two shares west of it. ... Immediately the settlers began to trickle in to the new village although the random drawings for the 144 lot shares, according to the paid membership of the stock company, did not take place until April 14, 1833, in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Minutes of the Common Pleas Court, Mercer County, Celina, Ohio, lists" 144 names. J. B. Ortman drew lot # 14. Earlier today, I got a hair trim. The beautician, a Schneider / Fischer, in her late 60s, is from Minster. She said the name, Ortman, was familiar to her (from her childhood) ... that some may still live in the region. I suggest calling the genealogy desk at the Minster Library. They may be willing to give you more information, faster. That's all my news for today. Becky PS Sorry if this posts 2Xs.
