My grandfather, Leo "Jake" Monnier was the clerk of Loramie Township. Recent discussion of the documentation of births and deaths lead me to ask my mother to clarify my grandfather's duties and years he was Township clerk. My mother says her mother, Judith (Didier) Monnier, used to have people come to the house to report births and deaths. She kept the books to record births and deaths in a big wooden chest in the parlor. In my grandmother's records she noted being paid for death certificates. Can someone shed some light on this for me? Was my grandmother keeping these records as part of grandpa's job as clerk? Can anyone look up what years he was actually clerk (Mom thinks 1937 into the early 40's)? Any info anyone can share about Township clerks would be most helpful. Sandy Newman bubbysgal@aol.com
