Found it! According to "The History of Shelby County".....Washington Township was originally named Grayson by Col. Jesse Wilson, in honor of the county in VA where he was born. The name was changed to Washington a short time later. I don't have the actual book, just abstracted info so I don't know which twps McLean came from.
