. JOHN HOUSER John William Houser, 83, of Sidney, formerly of Casstown and Troy, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001 at Dorothy Love Retirement Home, Sidney. He was born Oct. 12, 1918 in Troy to the late Harry S. and Bessie (Iddings) Houser. He is survived by his wife, Sarah L. (Lair) Houser of Sidney, whom he married Aug. 22, 1942; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Stuart and Diane Houser of Boston, Mass., Robert William and Connie Houser of Wapakoneta and David Joe and Sharon Houser of Portage, Mich.; four sisters, Barbara McKinney, Kathryn Rogers and Emma Jean Flory, all of Troy, and Lois Clark of Covington; eight grandchildren and one step-grandchild. Mr. Houser was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Melvin Houser and two sisters, Dorothy Harshbarger and Virginia Schaeffer. He was a 1936 graduate of Troy High School. He farmed until 1962 and worked as a Realtor for Barnes Realty for 17 years, then owned Houser Realty Co. for 19 years. He was a member of Casstown Methodist Church, where he served as church superintendent for 42 years. He served as a 4-H advisor in Lostcreek Twp. for 10 years. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 at Casstown United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Ramming officiating. Mr. Houser has donated his body to The University of Michigan Department of Anatomy for medical research. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Casstown United Methodist Church.
