I would like to have several professional-looking colorful charts made up to give as gifts to various family members of the genealogical information I have compiled. I have been scanning through my Ancestry magazine, surfing Cyndi's List and various other sources, but have not found anything that really caught my eye. I was wondering if someone on this list has had some experience in this area and would have a recommendation. Several years ago I requested some research from the Shelby Co. Ohio Genealogical Society in regards to Lefever families in Salem Twp., Shelby Co. Part of the material SCGS sent to me included a number of Quadrennial census - first for Shelby Co. and then they sent just the later dated ones for just Salem Twp. where my people were. I understood from the SCGS that Shelby Co. was one of the few Ohio counties that had these records survive relatively intact. Morris LeFever

Judy, Shelby County published several County Directories during the late 1800s ... I have one for about 1875. I believe there are some for later years. As far as I can tell, none of them are on-line. These directories include names of land owners and lists of residents in some of the communities. You can call Amos Library in Sidney, OH or the County Recorder's office, also in Sidney, and they can tell you what they have. I was told that the County Engineer's office has more of these Directories. (I've found everyone to be very helpful in all of these offices.) Let us know what you find. Becky

Judy - In checking the book I have that lists the state censuses and/or Quadrennial Enumerations - it says that in Ohio, after 1847, the townships conducted what they called Quadrennial Enumerations, and State Censuses were not conducted. According to my book, it appears that the last Quadrennial they've found for Shelby Co. (and then only for some of the townships within it) was conducted in 1875. It also says that most of the Quadrennials have never been found. My book was published in 1992 so I don't know if it is true any longer that the Quadrennial's are not centralized, but at publication date, the Quadrennials were said to be located at different Ohio Regional Research Centers (i.e. Wright State Univ., Univ. of Cincinnati, Univ. of Akron, etc.) About 10 years ago, at Wright State University's Library Archives and Special Collections section, I was lucky enough to actually be able to touch, hold, and copy the 1850 Quadrennial conducted for Shelby Co. for one of its townships. Since then, they have removed the originals from public contact. You can, however, view WSU's holdings on microfilm there, though the last date I believe they have pre-dates the time you are seeking. It might be worth a call to WSU, however, to find out if more of the Quads have been located for Shelby Co. and have been microfilmed. I know that WSU will, for a small fee, copy information for you from their microfilms. He was born in Russia, Ohio on May 18, 1921 the son of Albert and Eva H. (Didier) Monnin. Lloyd attended St. Joseph College and St. Charles Seminary then earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Dayton and his Masters degree and his Doctorate from the University of Notre Dame. He served as a teacher, a principal and a college instructor before becoming the Chairman and Associate Dean of the General Education Department at Clark State Community College. For two years, Lloyd was the director of Peace Corps Training for volunteers to Latin America. Lloyd served on the school board of Catholic Central High School, as a lector, a distributor and parish council member at St. Mary Parish and in recent years with the Parent Infant Center, the Parish News, the Catholic Social Services and the Clark County Educational Service Center. Professionally, he served on the boards of the Association for General and Liberal Studies, the Ohio Association of Two-Year Colleges and the local chapter of Phi Delta Kappa. He also was passionate about gardening, farming and building his own log home. Lloyd was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Marie A. (Kavanagh) and his brothers Robert and Frank Monnin. He is survived by six children and spouses, Mark of Asheville, North Carolina, Thomas and Cynthia Monnin of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Joseph and Deborah Monnin of Springfield, Mary and Steven Ruhe of Perrysburg, Ohio, Eileen and Kevin Kirby of Alexandria, Virginia and Michelle and Michael Meyer of Loveland, Ohio; Lloyd was also blessed to have 13 grandchildren, Kirby and Katie Monnin, Abigail, Theodore, Sebastian and Veronica Monnin, Sam, Jacob and Ethan Ruhe, Liam and Timothy Kirby, Matthias and Magdalena Meyer; two sisters, Sister Eileen Monnin of Dayton, Marjorie Hoying of Minster and brother Anthony Monnin of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Raphael Church. Entombment will be in St. Bernard Mausoleum. Marilyn, Your Thomas H. Taylor was from Dinsmore twp.? My Taylors generally are in Cynthian twp Shelby Co., or Montgomery Co. and Putnam Co. The names of William and Perry are used in my line also.I thought I would mention my Taylors to avoid any confusion.
