This was forwarded to me from another genealogy discussion list. It seems like a valid tip to pass on to you all since the genealogy community appears to be under attack from this Bad Trans Virus. - Jill *********************** A person can add this to their address book to stop the PC from sending unwanted virus attachments: go to the address book, type in !0000 as name, no address. If the PC becomes infected, it will ask for approval before sending mail to the whole list of addys...and then if it comes up without you doing it...then you know you are infected...just click "NO" DO NOT SEND...then the person can clean their PC of the virus... *******************************

You might want to try this: Have you been to the MSFT Update website before the virus got you? There were several security patches and later updates of these patches. Install them all, as recommended by Windows Update. If you are using MS Outlook, you also have to install all of their security patches, otherwise it will get in through this loop hole. I have cleaned it from one computer and I can tell you how to do it. I use Norton 2002 and they do not get to me. I am also running MSIE 6.0 and XP Home Edition on my desktop. How to clean it from your computer: 1. Run REGEDIT and go to the RunOnce section of the registry and delete the entry "kernel32=kernel32.exe" If you do not have an "Kernel32" entry here, you are not infected by Badtrans.b The actual key name is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce 2. If you are, boot with a DOS diskette and delete the file Kdll.dll in your %system% directory as well as the file kernel32.exe Your %system% directory is usually C:\Windows\System. You will have to do this from a DOS Boot Disk because Windows will not let you do it from within Widows. Create a Startup Disk via of the Control Panel and boot with it. 3. From your Windows CD, extract the file, kernel32.exe and copy it to the %system% directory 4. Probably the best thing to do is to re-install the OS but the above catches most of the problems. Reboot. To extract a file from the installation CABS enter the command: Extract /a (starting CAB name) "file name you want to extract" (in this case, kernel32.exe) John R. Sunday evening I downloaded the latest virus scan patches from McAfee; Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning McAfee assured me that I was running the latest scan and when I went through their recommended clean up procedure (just in case I hadn't already deleted any offending files), none of the virus-laden files showed up. Last evening, I checked the McAfee site again and downloaded their latest patch and, BINGO, the Badtrans virus showed up. I am now virus free, at least until the next round that McAfee doesn't catch from the get-go. I am really sorry. Elizabeth D.Wilson

I'm glad everyone enjoyed the peach dessert. I bought the ingredients to make it here but never got to make it. I had made 6 pumpkin pies and jello with fruit. I was getting ready to make it when my sister-in-law emailed us a recipe for chocolate eclair dessert which she had made for my son this past summer. I had everything for that so HE made it. Yummy! I am very cautious about opening attachments because I know that the virus protection on this computer is NOT up-to-date although it is on our main computer. carol >From: "Jay and Karen Williams" <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [OHSHELBY] Elizabeth Wilson's message >Date: Wed, 28 Nov 2001 10:52:04 -0600 > >Carol: >Thank you for giving the web site to go for help. Be careful. I believe her message was sent with the new version of the badtran virus. I deleted it off of my machine WITHOUT opening the attachments. Go to www.symantec.com for more information about this virus and how to recognize it. carol _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
There is just something about fall and winter that makes me want to bake. It probably has something to do with the thermometer finally going below 90 degrees! There is nothing better than a home-made dessert. Something about the fact that someone cared enough to make it for you that just adds to the flavor! Thank you for the receipe. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CYB.2ACE/388.1 Message Board Post: Here is more info I am adding: I am seeing if maybe possible any info you have may contain information about this family: Can anybody possibly check for cemetary records in or around Montgomery County (in surrounding counties, like Miami, etc.), for a Andrew K(e)iser (?-possibly before 1841). Only listing can find is that he married Susannah Hoffman (about 1799-after 1880), in 1819, in Montgomery County (listed on the Miami Valley Index), and had two children. Susannah remarried a John Swinehart (?-around 1860, maybe?), in 1841, and he had previously had two children we know about: George, Noah They then had a daughter Lydia. Lived in or around Jefferson Twp, Montgomery County. According to genealogist, listed on 1850 census. Susannah was daughter of a George Hoffman (?,Md.-about 1828-when will was taken care of)(he had 13 children), who purchased land from a Jacob Miller (listed on Montgomery County Genweb site, as original land owner in Jefferson Twp.). She was last listed as living with her son, in Shelby County, Ohio, in the 1880 Census. I already have marriage record from index, as said above [email protected] looked up, and said he could not find anything, including will for George. My relative got copies from the Montgomery County Library (been there before), that somebody had copied from the Court Records- there was something concernin George's family (cousin thought it was a will). as says that in 1828, John Stiver became guardian of George's children that were still young (Susannah would have been about 28, at the time). My cousin also told me that from a census source taken in 1830, that Andrew was in Jefferson, and had, other than two sons, two more girls and a boy. Thanks for your help.
