Thank you. I cannot find anywhere that lists an email for the Amos Library but I will gladly send them a written request. If anyone knows of an email address, that would be great. But I am also caapable of snail mail. Just takes so long. Everything I have heard about Mr. Van Horn sounds like he was a nice man. I wish I had gotten the opportunity to meet him, especially since he was a not-too-distant cousin of mine. Thank you for the information. Regarding Van Horn: If you write to the library (e-mail?) they will l probably send you an obit on him; that will give you his survivors. I used to run across a man all the time at the library in the Genealogy section, and I think it was him. He was always trying to help there anyone who needed help. Karen

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CYB.2ACE/400 Message Board Post: I recently learned that a researcher from Sidney, Shelby County, Ohio, named Harold Van Horn for many years had been researching the same line of the family that I have just started. Unfortunately, I also just learned that he died earlier this year. I was wondering if anyone that lives in Sidney knows his family so that I can express my condolences to them and do that terrible thing that researchers do...ask about any information he had that they would be willing to share with me. He sent my Mom a letter back in 1988 asking for information on our family. My 19 yoa brother had been killed the year before and my mother was pretty messed up and didn't respond. Last week she gave me the letter and I find that Mr. Van Horn has died. Some sort of message there. Any help would be appreciated with contacting his family. Thank you.
Hello and Happy Holidays! I am looking for information about the Guy family. My great-great grandmother was Mary Jane Guy who married William Jones in 1870. I have pictures of a Bell Guy in our family photo album but I don't know how she fits into the family. There is also a picture of my grandfather, Carl (Andy) Van Fossen, as a boy with Russell Guy and Charles Guy. Again, I do not know how they fit into my family. Any help would be appreciated! She may have been born in Logan Co. or Shelby Co.
Regarding death cert. for couple in Wesley Chapel Ceme. Shelby County should have deaths listed from 1867. Also someone has done copied the cemetery stone inscriptions. You can check the courthouse for deaths; the library would have the cemetery record book. Karen PS Also probate records for and estate.

After pondering your search problem some more, I decided to find our more about SARAH (GUMP) RICHERT and her husband, JACOB. I have found them buried in Glen Cemeterry, "a large community cemetery in kSalem Township, Shelby County, Ohio, located along SR-47, just southwest of Port Jefferson. Laid out in 1874....earlier deaths recorded." Here is the information gleaned from the cemetery information contained in "Memorial Records of Shelby County, Ohio 1819-1975" by Barbara Adams and Gene Mozley. I should tell you that there are approximately 8 or 9 Gump families and several Richerts also buried in this cemetery, too, so "the apple doesn't seem to have fallen far from the tree", i.e., the Gump and Richert families stayed in the Shelby County area. RICHERT, Jacob, born German on 06/14/1847. Late residence Sidney, Ohioo. Date of death was 01/10/1933 at age 85 years. He is in Lot 91, Section F. RICHERT, Sarah, born in Salem Township, Shelby County, Ohio on 05/15/1853. Late residence Sidney, Ohio. Date of death 10/06/1937 at age 84 years. She is also buried in Lot 91, Section F. You should be able to find Sarah in the 1860 and 1870 censii for Shelby County to help locate her parents. I would suggest especially searching Salem Township where she reportedly was born. Have you obtained the death certificate of Sarah Gump Rickert? That m-a-y list one or both of the parents. Do you have any 'hints' whatsoever who her parents may have been, i.e., perhaps one of the names of her children may be one of her parents names. Perhaps the cemetery sexton's records have more info. I'd be happy to do another search of the record books I have if you can possibly supply additional info. I hope some of this info gives you a few leads to more records. In pondering your query here, I note you are suggesting that Sarah GUMP married Mr. RICKER(T) at age 13. Is that right? Terry, the closest I can find is the following: Retta LAMBERT married to Alexander BOTKINS on 11 June 1891 by W. R. Shultz (Book 8, Page 21 of Shelby County Marriage Records, Volume 2, 1871-1899). I was unable to locate any reference to W. R. Shultz in the "Ministers and Justices of Peace" index...in case a religious denomination was given. Hope this helps you. According to a book that I own called "Ohio Place Names" by Larry L. Miller (p. 10), Armitage is in Athens Co. Also, the surname of Hiram Armitage is commemorated at this site. Hope this is helpful. Jill
Hi I've heard of Armitage, Ohio; try Athens Co. :) Karen
