Hi again Mr. Shafer: Would you please let me know where you were able to obtain the church records you mention. Were they available at the Amos Memorial Library or something? I look forward to hearing from you :) Lynne Michigan
Hi, My line is Bradford. My Thomas died around 1877. That is according to the local church records. Otherwise I have not found a death or burial record. They were members of Houston Christian Church in Houston. Do you know where your family attended church. I have copies of some of the church records. Not in alpha. order but I can take a few minutes and see if they are listed. Yes, Diane, it was in the book as SOUDEN, but that could be how the transcriber read the old records....when you think about it, an "r" looks like an unfinished "n". I double checked and I don't show any listings in Vol. 1 or 2 for a Virginia Adams - just in case she was married previous to her marriage to David. You're welcome to check back with me if you need more look-ups. Lynne, thanks for the extra look for Virginia too. Don, Thanks for your response. I still needed to find David SOUDERS in 1870, and thanks to your posting, I just received a message from someone that can help us both. What is your family name? Lynne, Thank you so much for the lookup. I will send for a copy of the marriage record. Was the name really spelled "Souden" ? (and I was told Virginia's name was Adams). This is why I have so much trouble finding all these folks. I had the same problem growing up, as my maiden name was Souders. May I call on you for a few more as I try to put this family together? David William SOUDERS was my great great grandfather. I am happy to do lookups of various things for Portland or Oregon resources if anyone needs anything. Diana Portland, Or. [email protected]
Hi, Diana, Here is the entry you requested from the "Marriage Records of Shelby County, Ohio, Vol. 2, 1871-1899": SOUDEN, David married DAVIS, Virginia on 10 Apr 1871 by J. J. O'Denohue. Book 5, page 336. I checked the index of Ministers and Justices of the Peace in the marriage book to determine what denomination or capacity J. J. O'Denohue was able to marry them, but there was no listing. Perhaps if you write to the Shelby County Probate Court for a copy of this marriage record, there will be more information on the record. The phone number to the church is either 937-526-3437 or the same number with area code 419. There may also be a few smaller cemetaries in the surrounding townships, but I'm not for certain. I would be interested in sharing information with you, as my grandmother's first husband was also a Grogean, so we may be related!

Hi, Happen to see your posting. I have an index to the 1870 Shelby Co. census. He is listed as head of household. Here is what so funny. He is on the same page, 543, as my family. Ronni, I don't find any listing for these folks in the "Marriage Records of Shelby County, Ohio", Vol. 1, 1819-1870. I tried a couple variations of each name and still no luck. Hi Lynne, I would appreciate a lookup for the marriage record of: David William SOUDERS to Virginia ADAMS, about 1871. In case they are not in Vol. 1 (1819-1870), would you have access to the next volume? Thanks so much for your time and help. Diana Portland, Or. [email protected]
