This couple had the following children: William Hanford born November 30, 1842, Margaret born 1847, Isaac N. born 1849, John M. born June 1852, Sarah E. born 1857, and Amanda J. Please contact me if you are familiar with this family.
A brother of my Daniel, David Lefever married Eliza (he evidently called her Elacta) 3 Jan 1830, Shelby Co. They had one daughter, Lydia who was deaf due to scarlet fever as a baby - perhaps that did her mother in as David remarried to Mary Ann Mckee and they had a bunch of children. His will probated 10 Jan 1866 names his family including Lydia as eldest daughter There is a later marriage of a Lydia Lefever in Shelby Co., which might be her. I do not think I have anything that indicates the parents of Eliza Mellinger. I do know Mellingers were in Staunton Twp. Miami Co. where David's father John was 1820. I understand that many years previous in PA there were a number of Mellinger in Lancaster PA area who were Mennonite Ministers. That fellow was Harold Van Horn and he donated his research to the SCGS. They were kind enough to pull his file on my Rich line and Ms. Barbara Adams was kind enough to copy it. It will be awhile before I'm able to get access to the rest of his records through Ms. Adams (I live in Florida). She has also graciously copied my line from the Blue Book you are describing. Unfortunately, it doesn't contain much more than the information on Mellinger and my other lines. Thank you for replying and trying to help! I do appreciate it! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don Shafer" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, March 24, 2002 9:03 AM Subject: Re: [OHSHELBY] Blue, Daniel, Millhoff, Mellinger, Rich > Hi, > A few years ago I met this gentlemen at the Shelby Co. libray in Sidney who > was working on the Blue family. Hi, A few years ago I met this gentlemen at the Shelby Co. libray in Sidney who was working on the Blue family. In fact his whole life was devoted to genealogy of Blue. I had a person in my genealogy that married a Blue and I had contacted him a number of times. I just heard last week that he died last year. Now I know that there is a very large book in the library that covers all the Blue family. So you need to find someone that can help you from the society. I am a member but I live 2 hours away. Otherwise I would be glad to work with you. The 1820 fc for Staunton Twp., Miami Co. has two households next to my John Lefever with the surname HITTON: 1) Joshua, older male and female, many young males, one young female; 2) The second: Theaphillis. It shows only one person, a female 26-45. ,) On the other side of John is Barrett, James; next Gerrard, Isaac; next Gerrard, Nathaniel, Sr. Next to the two Hittons are: Miller, Joseph; Carson, Amos; Knoop, John; Martin. Levi; Hayes, John; Steward; David John Lefever went to Salem Twp. Shelby Co., by 1825. The other surnames are early into Shelby also, except Hitton The Hitton names very rare in SW Ohio. Is it just a bad spelling by WPA workers? Did they change their name? Is it the same as HUDLON (HUDLOW)? Does anyone have a clue about Hitton?

The darn 1820 census taker, Warren Co. only recorded given name initials. I think Lefevers are related to Pence (both married same families) in Turtlecrrek Twp; V. J. & F. Pence Earlier, Lefever & Pence in Miami Co and Montgomery Co. were related to TOBIAS and HUNT.. those names ended up in Shelby. I don't know if I will ever puzzle out relationships.
