JO ELLEN & OTHERS: To get to MD records just use a search engine like google and type in Maryland Archives, or Maryland government. For just Fredrick Co. , type that in instead. Also try a search for Maryland churches. I found when I got into them there were links to Historical and Genealogical organizations. And where records are kept. Try Genweb or MdGenweb or http://www.rootsweb.com/~mdfreder/ There are a few people that will do lookups of names in church records, cemetery, marrage license, etc. There are message forums at GenForum and RootsWeb. Some archives are on line. I went from a surname to the 1800 census in MD. With that to church records, marriage records etc. Lookups helped much. Confirmation of data and links to others came from message boards (found descendants of my ancestor's siblings, who had research that filled in a few blanks and told me I was working on the right Lefever in Frederick Co. MD And some kin there in 1790's I found in Shelby a few years later. Morris LeFever

Hello List, I have over the length of a year, been researching the murder of my gr gr grandfather, Phillip Rhodes who lived in Van Buren Twp. at the time of his death in April of 1863. I have been very fortunate in that I found the newspaper accounts and recently have gleaned the coroner's inquest which includes an eyewitness account of the incident. I am now trying to pin down the exact place in which the event happened. The coroners report states that he was living at the David Bates farm. and that there was a neighbor Peter Schmith (Smith) and Simon Schmith that stated that they lived about a quarter of a mile from Rhodes. Was hoping that someone might have some info on these surnames or perhaps where they were located. Also the eyewitness was a Catherine Niesle(?) who was 19 at the time and her parents lived near Port Jefferson. ( because of the handwritten script, Catherine's last name is hard to decipher) If anyone out there has any knowledge of this event or people it! would be very much appreciated!! Thanks-All , Trace Archer

Just wanted to get my two cents in here. I don't know about Ohio, but in Indiana, even today the Marriage license and Record are housed in the Husband's County of residence, regardless of where the marriage actually took place.
I've checked the marriage records for Shelby County, both before and after the approximate year you've given, and I do not find any record of their marriage in Shelby County. Perhaps they married in "the next county over". Very often, the marriage took place in the bride's area - even if the groom was from another county. Good luck :) Lynne ----- Original Message ----- From: "KSK" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, May 01, 2002 5:58 PM Subject: [OHSHELBY] Marriages > Looking for a marriage record for William Weir/Weir > Mary Anna Winker/Winkler probaby around 1880/1883. > Thanks for any help > Sue > > > ==== OHSHELBY Mailing List ==== > The Shelby County Genealogical Society offers memberships and publications at: > c/o Mrs. Betty Bevans > 17755 St. Rt. 47 > Sidney, OH 45365-9242 > > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 >
