    2. Linda Gittinger Hickman
    3. The information below is from a piece of paper I found in a book my wonderful children rescued from someone's trash for me many years ago. I just came across it again and thought I would type it up in case it could be of benefit/interest to someone. I have no other info than what is here and I am not related to the family. Regards, Linda Typed as it appears on the original. BAUGHER FAMILY HISTORY William Baugher Born: 9-29-1809 Died: 6-19-1864 Age 54 yrs. 8 mo. 19 da. Bur: Baugher Cem. M 12-1-1847 Margaret Carson Born: 6-29-1821 in Pennsylvania Died: 6-19-1899 Age 77 yrs. 11 mo. 21 da. Bur: Baugher Cem. Margaret Carson came to Ohio Pennsylvania about 1832 with her parents when she was 11 yrs. old. Walked all the way behind the 'wagon' as they called it (prarie(sic) schooner) as there was not enough room for the furniture and all of them to ride. In(sic) was in this wagon that the corner cupboard, cherry table and bureau, was brought to Ohio. This information told to me by my mother, Ada Baugher Kern. At one time there were living in Venice Twp. several Carson families who may have been Margaret's ancestors and descendents, but there is no definite proof other than the fact that they all came from Union Co., Pa. Two brothers and one sister that my mother often spoke of were John, James & Mary Carson. John was married and lived in the house one-half mile West of Harmony Church where I lived from 1903 to 1910 as a child. Think he died there. James & Mary, never married, lived in the house across the hollow (where Fadely's lived). In later, years they both lived with John Baugh! er, my mother's brother and my uncle, in a big square type house (still standing) between Mohawk & Negrotown Rd. Same road on which the Baugher Cemetery is located. Both died there. James was tall, slender, slow, easy going. Died 3-3-1895, aged 76 yrs., 11 mo., 15 da. Mary was short, stocky built and very witty. Died 1-23-1900, age 83 yrs., 1 mo., 11 da. Both buried in Baugher Cemetery. Told to me by Anna Baugher Stewart, my cousin, daughter of John Baugher, about a year before she died. After William died, Margaret was left with 8 children to support, the youngest, Daniel, only 6 mo. old. 3-9-1865 she sold the farm in Seneca Twp. and purchased 40 a. in Eden Twp., just East of the farm where they had lived and also East of the Baugher Cem. My mother was next to the youngest of the children and the last to marry. Here Margaret & my Mother lived until they sold the farm and moved to Tiffin. They lived in the first house on Sycamore St. next to the business block. The house! is still standing and is now a double house. I do not know if it was then or not and if they owned it or rented. After my mother was married Margaret went to live with the Tom Kerschner family at 252 Jefferson St. They were good friends. It was here Margaret fell down the cellar stairs, broke her hip and later died as a result of the fall. The Carsons were Irish. William Baugher came to Ohio about 1833 with his first wife, Elizabeth and one child from Frederick Co. Maryland. According to birth dates available, three other children were born after they came to Ohio. (See history of first marriage). He had owned a 75 a. farm in Maryland which he sold to Peter Kemp. 9-11-1833 he purchased from, Aaron Umsted, 90.70 a. in Clinton Twp. (Recorded Vol. 3, Page 455, Seneca Co. Deed Records). This farm was near Bethel Church, North of Tiffin. His first wife died about 1846 and 12-7-1847 he married Margaret Carson, my grandmother. They evidently continued to reside there and the 3 older children were born there. March 17, 1854, he sold the farm near Bethel to a Darius Loose consisting of 70.70 a. in Clinton Twp. for $3,000.00. (Recorded Vol. 27, Page 143, Seneca Co. Deed Records ) 10 a. each time had been previously sold to a George Stoner on two occasions. 3-29-1854 he purchased 138.21 a. in Seneca Twp. from M. M. Fiser for $3800.00. (Rec. ! Vol. 26, Pg.522). This farm was located 7 miles S. of Tiffin, then 1/2 mi. W., off the Negrotown Rd., along the Sandusky River. Lived there until he died. In 1864 was on his way to serve in the Civil War. Rode a horse into Tiffin, took sick and was taken to a rooming house where he died 6-19-1864. The rooming house was near St. Joseph's Church. There were no hospitals in Tiffin then. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* "Little by little the look of the country changes because of the men we admire."
