It was not unusual during the Civil War for a person to immediately re-enlist upon being discharged. Normally that person was then assigned to a new unit. This also meant that they were entitled to a new bounty payment as well, which was a big enticement for re-enlisting. I would say that it seems likely that J. S. & John S. are the same person. As far as St. Joseph Catholic Church, that is indeed the same congregation as St. Joseph German Catholic Church. That congregation formed in 1845, because of the desire of a number of Catholics in Tiffin to hear their services in German. This was also true of other denominations as well, such as the founding of the German (2nd) Reformed Church of Tiffin in 1850. In the meantime, does anyone have any information as to Margaret Watchier (Watcher) who married a John S. Harrison. They were married in August 1863 and had 3 children, Austin, Minnie and Edward. In the Seneca History online, there is a J.S. Harrison who joined the Union Army, 8th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. I don't know if this is my ancestor or not, as on the day he was mustered out, another John S. Harrison enlisted in Tiffin. I have no information as to John Harrison; no date of birth, place of birth, parents' names, siblings, etc. As family rumor has it, he supposedly abandoned the family, exactly when is not known, and his further whereabouts are unknown. > > Margaret died in 1885 in Tiffin from burns she received when an oil lamp toppled and caught her skirt on fire. She had funeral services from St. Joseph German Catholic Church. I don't know if this is the same St. Joseph Catholic Church that you have in Tiffin today and I don't know where she is buried. I have some knowledge of Austin and Minnie Harrison; however, Edward Harrison seems to have disappeared. > > Jane S. > > > ============================== > Join the RootsWeb WorldConnect Project: > Linking the world, one GEDCOM at a time. > http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com >
