    3. (Redirected by "DC & Alice Allen" <dcaallen@pacifier.com>) A reply from Sue: *********** BEGIN REDIRECTED MESSAGE *********** Hi Pam, I'm an antique dealer as well. From my own knowledges perhaps she is right in some circumstances but more often than not the name on the coverlet is indeed the weaver. His advertisement perhaps. There is a book on coverlet makers of which I need to find sometime listing the names of the coverlet makers and most did put their name on their coverlet. I have had alot of good emails narrowing down to this person. We have found a John Heater ( misspelled but that was common in those days as the name could have been interchangeable ) Scipio township, Seneca cty. in the 1850 census and yes he too is listed as Farmer and Weaver which is significant because it was an art not practiced by just anyone and the looms used were rather large you had to have the right place for one to be an avid weaver. Married to an Elizabeth with 9 children. Is he the relative you are talking about? I'm delving even further as another man emailed me and may be related and he is checking to see if this man is the same. He said the name Heeter was German for Huther and thereby was changed alot coming to this country to Heater, Heeter, and others. It was common to have the same person referred to by different names until the main one "stuck" so to speak. So she may be right in some circumstances as far as the name on the coverlet goes but from my experiences it is the weavers name and yes the men often were the weavers. thanks Sue ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pam (Redirected by "DC & Alice Allen" <dcaallen@pacifier.com>)" <par3@sc.rr.com> To: <app5775@bright.net> Sent: Monday, August 11, 2003 8:58 PM Subject: Re: [OHSENECA] Seneca county history (Redirected by "DC & Alice Allen" <dcaallen@pacifier.com>) *********** BEGIN REDIRECTED MESSAGE *********** One of my husband's ancestors is listed as a weaver in census records, so I once mentioned to a dealer in antique textiles that it would be nice if we could find a piece with his name woven into it. She told me that the name woven into a coverlet was most likely the name of the person for whom the coverlet was made NOT the name of the person who did the weaving. I never delved into this further to find out if what this dealer told me is a fact, but it's something to think about. 3. Hi Sue, My husband's ancestor who I was referring to was Edward C. Marble, Sr. In the 1850 Lockport, Niagara Co., NY Census, he is listed as a weaver. In the 1860 Mexico, Tymochtee Twp, Wyandot Co., OH Census, he's listed as a laborer. I have not found him in 1870, although his wife and family are in Carey, Wyandot Co., OH in that census year. I have been told by another researcher that he moved to Berrien Co., MI and died there. Thanks for the interesting information. I would love to know if any of Edward Marble's weaving survived or was ever documented. This was my husband's 3rd great-grandfather.
