Hello Listmembers, I see a roll call was started earlier today. Just what we need to jump-start a quiet list--we're normally not this quiet. I did want to give you a couple of suggestions to make this work for you, especially if you're new to mailing lists and Internet genealgoy. In the Subject line, instead of "Roll Call" or something similar, change it to reflect your Seneca County families. I know for me, if I have a lot of emails to read and very little time, I'll often skim the Subject lines for emails that I need to handle fairly soon (queries, lookup requests, etc) and leave the rest till later when I have more time. And I do know that some of us just delete emails without reading them based on the Subject line. What a shame to miss a new connection because the Subject line doesn't reflect what's in the email. I have noticed some of you are already doing this--well done! Also, take a moment to include a time frame as well. If you're looking for your family in the 1830's, chances are you won't be interested in the same surname if they didn't arrive in the area until 1875. And of course, feel free to include a little more data and what you are hoping to find as well. I'll be posting my own Seneca County families shortly. Remember to make that Subject line work for you.
