Hi Sue, Sorry, but neither Henry nor Louise Knepper are listed in "Seneca County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions". This book was published in 1987, and to my knowledge it includes all of the Seneca County cemteries. Mary >I recently learned that one of my ancestors Louisa Knepper >d. in Seneca Co 12 April, 1917. I recently learned that one of my ancestors Louisa Knepper d. in Seneca Co 12 April, 1917. It is possible her husband Henry may have also died in Seneca Co. I did not find him in 1900 census, so he may have died between 1880 & 1900. Can anyone help me find if they are buried in Seneca Co, and what cemetery ? Thanks for any help or clues. Sue
In addition to the alternate name Ink, the USGS site lists these additional alternate names: Morris, Swander Station and Viona. Pam Kerschner

Maps.yahoo.com; www.mapquest.com; and www.geocities.com collectively show Swander, Ohio to be located about 4 miles Southwest of Tiffin, at the intersection of Cr-36 and Cr-17 (Swander Road), just north of Route 224, and at Latitude 410543N, Longitude 0830536W. I believe this would place it in the township of Clinton, Seneca County, Ohio. It appears to still exist. Note: The publication: Original Land Entries of Seneca County, Ohio, by Brill, Sackett & Holscher, 1992, and the Seneca County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions book, both contain maps of Seneca County, Ohio which show the placename of "Ink," at the same location as "Swander" identified above. Can anyone tell me about Swander? Does it still exist? What Township was it in?

Hello All! Thomas J. Thiel wrote me this letter: ********************* I recently purchased copies of Nicholas Gonner's "Luxembourgers in the New World (1987)," which provides a lot of insight of interest to genealogists whose ancestors emigrated from that part of Europe. In 1889, Gonner originally published "Die Luxemburger in der Neuen Welt" in Dubuque, Iowa. This was a compilation of years of information Gonner had collected describing the emigration from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to the United States. It was in German. Then in 1987, Jean Ensch, Jean-Claude Muller, and Robert E. Owen, Edited an English translation entitled "Luxembourgers in the New World." Volume One of this new edition is divided into three parts. Part I covers in fairly explicit detail the reasons for the Luxembourger migration between 1840 and 1890 and also discusses how they traveled. Part II talks about Luxembourgers settlements in the US. Especially interesting is the chapter devoted to Ohio settlements including the communities of Kirby, Carey (especially "Our Lady Consoler of the Afflicted"), and Upper Sandusky. In Seneca County the communities of New Reigel, Frenchtown, Alvada, Bascomb and Tiffin are discussed. Part III discusses various aspects of Luxembourger presence in the US. Volume Two is a very large index of Gonner's newspaper Luxemburger Gazette (1871-1918). These are extremely well-indexed documents that provide excellent research capability for looking up individuals and communities. Since Gonner settled in Missouri and then Iowa that part is covered in somewhat more detail but the entire book is most fascinating. For example I found my G Grandfather's name (and many other Kirbyians) signed a petition in 1892 urging the Grand Duchy to provide a Consul to the US. II would be happy provide Look-Ups in this document. ******************************************* I have updated the look-up volunteer page to include Thomas. You can find it at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohwyando/vol.html Hope this helps someone! The Social Security Death Index shows the following Claude Estes who might (or might not) be your Claude Estes. If this SSDI Claude, who died in Florida, were married at about age 18-19, he could have had a child who would be about age 70 now. The SSDI Claude Estes has middle initial "O." Does this fit with what you know about your Claude Estes? Claude O. Estes, b. 21 Sep 1915, d. 27 Sep 2001. Orlando, FL 32806, issued FL. I could find no death record for Corrine Estes. Maybe you have some anecdotal data that would say further searching might tie them together. My Great-great gandfather was John Powell, son of John Powell. The "first" John Powell came to Seneca county about 1830. I haven't gotten anywhere on researching John before 1830. He came to Seneca supposedly directly from PA (not via Fairfield County, OH) , and may have come with a brother, Robert, but that's conjecture so far. Robert seems to have died in the mid 1800's (like 1859 maybe?). I believe there is one person studying Robert's line, but I have lost her name and adress. John (the senior) had multiple children, one of which may have been Ella's parent, but I haven't researched them much. So far I haven't been able to connect my Powells with any other Powell's which are so numerous in the area. My gggrandfather (John, the son) had 6 children (according to census data which shows how many children the mother had.) The children I can confirm are Arvilla Powell Klotz, Emma Powell Holman (my direct line), Katherine Powell Mann and Sylvia Powell Kenan/Keenan. Arvilla was the first born, about 1859, and she died before 1890. One of the other two children may have been a son, but I can't find them, so I assume they died young. Please let me know if any of your data might intersect this line. Thanks Irma

Washington Henry b. 1820 (son of an Enoch Henry who later married Prudence (Chilcote) England) married Mary England (Dau. of Prudence) died in Seneca Co., OH 11 Oct. 1847. Does anyone know where he may have been buried? His father Enoch died two months before Washington and is buried at the Fountain of Fostoria but I don't think Washington was there. In 1850 I find Washington's widow and three children living in Loudon Twp., (Risdon), Seneca Co. next door to her brother Nathaniel England. Is there a cemetery close to Risdon that I should be checking? Any assistance or guidance will be appreciated. Thanks. Diane
