I just uploaded a bunch of new obituary contributions to the Seneca Co. GenWeb site. Surnames include: Basinger, Beach, Bell, Benner, Bickley, Boes, Boyce, Brickner, Burns, Clinger, Gillig, Hoerig, Hohman, Huss, Kaufman, Kessler, Kingman, Kirian. I have a bunch more to add, but thought I'd better upload these for now rather than wait until they are all done. First-- there is a Justin Snyder who appears in the 1870 Census and is living in Tiffin Ward 2, Seneca County, Ohio. His age in 1870 was 49 giving him an estimated birth year of 1820. His birthplace was listed as Baden (Germany). The census image shows: Justin Snyder, age 49, occupation: drayman, place of birth: Baden. His wife is listed as Eliza, age 45, keeping house, place of birth: Ohio. Then there is the Justin Schneider who married Mrs. Barbara Klopp, widow, on 25 Aug 1872. This reference comes from Marriages of Seneca County, Ohio, 1841-1899, by Jean Seigley. It reads as follows: Justin Schneider, age 22, m. Mrs. Barbara Klopp, age 29, citation 7-167. Cert. for bride--- widow Barbara Klopp. The estimated birth years for Justin and Barbara here would be 1850 and 1843 respectively. This latter marriage of 1872 is also found in Ancestry.Com's Ohio Marriages, 1803-1900. The same marriage is found in Family Search's Family Group Record, but in this case the surname is spelled SNYDER. In the History of Seneca County, Ohio by Warner, Beers & Co., 1886, there is a reference on page 376 to a Justin Snyder who was listed as one of the life members of the Seneca County Agricultural Society. A footnote to his name indicated he was deceased (as of the date of publication) I could find no references to a Justin or Barbara Snyder/Schneider in the Seneca County, Ohio Cemetery Inscription book. However, I did find a reference to a Justin Snyder in the R.B. Hayes Obituary Index (www.rbhayes.org). His year of death was given as 1878, and the obit was published in the Tiffin Weekly Tribune on 11/28/1878, page 7, col. 2. The web site shows how you can order a copy of this obit from the Tiffin Seneca Public Library for $2.50 per obit. I could find no reference to a Barbara Snyder/Schneider in this obit index. Hi, Kristina; tried your link and got a message that the page couldn't be found. What shall I try now? And thank you all for your hard work, it is definetly appreciated. Carol
Hello, I'm looking for any information on Justin SNYDER or SCHNEIDER. I've found him in the 1870 census residing with his wife, Eliza, in Tiffin. The first wife must have died prior to 1872 because he then married Barbara Reis KLOPP that year. I can't find Barbara or Justin in the 1880 census. What happened to him? When did he die? I can't find Barbara either in the 1880 census. Any help would be appreciated. Ernestine Wark, NJ researching KLOPP

Hi Shelby, I could find no reference to a cemetery by the name of Rehoboth in Seneca County, Ohio in either our Seneca County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions book, or in the list of Ohio Cemeteries found in the web site: www.geocities.com/ohioplaces/cemeteries/r.html. The latter web site does list the following for five different counties in Ohio, but not for Seneca County: Rehobeth Cemetery Gallia County Rehobeth Cemetery Morgan County Rehoboth Cemetery Clinton County Rehoboth Cemetery Jefferson County Rehoboth Cemetery Montgomery County. The only references I found to "Rehoboth" was to a small village in Jackson Township, Seneca County, Ohio, which was first surveyed in 1844, but which never flourished. The first reference came from the History of Seneca County, Ohio, published by Warner Beers & Co., 1886: Page 566. Chapter on Jackson Township. "Small settlements-- Rehoboth was surveyed by Thomas Heming in December, 1844, for Isaiah Hollopeter on the east half of the southwest quarter of Section 17................men were too busy with politics, and women were too content to live on their farm and grow wealthy as their lands increased in value to dream of settling down to a life of the Mission Church." The second reference came from the History of Seneca County, Ohio by William Lang, 1880. Page 547. Chapter on Jackson Township. " Isaiah Hollopeter laid out the town of Rehoboth on the 7th of December, 1844, but it never flourished." I noticed two names of the Gee family (Nellie B., 1885-19--, and Walter A., 1883-1951) were listed as buried in Zion Lutheran Cemetry, Jackson Township, and perhaps there might be a connection with the old Rehoboth village of Jackson Township mentioned above, but there are also a number of other Gees listed as buried in other Seneca County townships: Bessie V., Fairmount Cemetery, Clinton Township Clyde M, Mildred, Robert W. & Susan, Kansas Cemetery, Liberty Township Fidelia A & William N., Bunker Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Township Meda, Farewell Retreat Cemetery, Scipio Township Polly A. & William L., Liberty Center Cemetery, Liberty Township. Sorry I couldn't come any closer. Regards, Ken Shute (kwsroots@aol.com)

Could it be the > same place? Meg Kemp Hi Meg, I was unable to find any references to a Rinebolt Cemetery in Seneca County, OH, in our publications, or on the internet, nor did I find any support that Liberty Center Cemetery is the same as Rinebolt Cemetery. In our Seneca County, OH, Cemetery Inscriptions book I note only 2 Rinebolts listed for the Liberty Center Cemetery (Liberty Township), but 26 Rinebolds and 5 Rinebolts listed in the index for Zion Lutheran Cemetery (Jackson Township).. Many in this latter cemetery were born in the early part of the 1800's. It would be tempting to speculate that the Zion Lutheran Cemetery might have once been known as the Rinebold/Rinebolt Cemetery, but I could find no evidence of this at all. I might be wrong, but I found what appears to be your William McLaughlin family. They are, from several sources: William Hunter McLaughlin, estimated year of birth (eyob) 1855 Sara Percilla (Williamson) McLaughlin, wife, eyob 1856 Daniel Arthur McLaughlin, son, eyob 1875 Estella McLaughlin, daughter, eyob 1879. William H. McLaughlin, age 19, m. Sara P. Williamson, age 18, Nov. 20, 1873. In the 1970 Census for Jackson Township the following Williamsons appear on Census Pages 137/138, household 170: John W. (?), head Mary C. Alice, Sarah P. Ida M. Eliza G. Albert J. Minnie E. In the Liberty Center Cemetery I find Sara P. McLaughlin, age 28, d. May 25, 1884; Estella McLaughlin, age 10, d. April 10, 1890; and Infant McLaughlin, age 1 m 15d, d. July 15, 1884. A William McLaughlin, April 12 1805- Sept. 20, 1888, is listed in the Index for Liberty Center Cemetery, and a Wm. H. McLaughlin is listed in the Caroline Burying Ground, Venice Township, but the latter is an infant, age 3 m 7d who d. Dec. 21, 1857. Because of the birthyear (1805) of the former William McLaughlin, the burial site of William Hunter Mclaughlin would seem to be still in question. Finally, if I may muddy the waters even more, I found a Wm. H. McLaughlin , with eyob of 1856, buried in Edwards Grove Cemetery, Ripley Township, Huron County, OH in our Huron County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions book. He died 20 April 1884, age 28y 1m 11d. I have nothing further on this person at this time. If you need further details on any of the foregoing, let me know. Regards, Ken Shute (kwsroots@aol.com)
