All this rainy weather gives me time to work between the rays of sunshine in my perennial gardens and my websites. Maureen has typed up a lisiting of 58 burials found in Null cemetery in Liberty twp, so I got that online today. She has added extra information to help us out such as maiden names of wives if she found them. You can find it at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ohio/seneca/null.htm and all Seneca County cemetery list at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ohio/seneca/list.htm * Also note that Dave and Carolyn have been contributing photos of tombstones found at St. Boniface cemetery in New Riegel. They have more they intend to send, and I have just added some, so keep an eye on that ever changing site if you have family buried there, it just might show up soon! * Hope this helps someone! -Kristina Kuhn Krumm born and raised in Tiffin, Seneca Co., Ohio *********** END REDIRECTED MESSAGE ***********

    1. Re: Rosters for GAR Posts (UPDATE)
    2. For GrammaNos. Well, Dang! After all that detail I just sent you which I extracted from our copy of the History of Seneca County, Ohio by Warner, Beers & Co., 1886, I belatedly remembered that the entire book is now on line. If you go to the web site: www.heritagepursuit.com/Seneca/SenIndex.htm, you can check the page references I gave you for yourself, and browse the rest of the book. The book is 1,067 pages in length-- a real, rich resource. When you go to the list of Seneca soldiers who served in the Civil War, note the names are arranged alphabetically by the first letter of the surname only. So you'll have to scan all names beginning A, all names beginning B, etc. Regards, Ken Shute (kwsroots@aol.com)

They are: 1. Page 663. (Section on Republic, Scipio Township) "Horace Robinson Post, G.A.R., was established under charter September 10, 1881 and named in honor of a soldier who fell at Chancellorsville, May 2, 1863. In addition to the above, there is a list of the soldiers from Seneca County who served in the War of 1861-1865. The list appears on pages 348-369 of the History of Seneca County, Ohio, and gives name, date of enlistment, company and regiment, and date of death or discharge. If you have a particular soldier in mind, I'd be glad to look it up in this list. We also hold an Index to the entire publication of the History of Seneca County, Ohio by Warner, Beers & Co., 1886. 2. Fountain Cemetery is located as you leave Fostoria on the west side, on SR 18/613. The city is almost done with a new building there, along with other improvements. There are some very old sections there.

Hi Kris, You might want to check for the Fountain Cemetery in Hancock County, OH. Go to the web site: www.geocities.com/ohioplaces/cemeteries/f.html. This lists a Fountain Cemetery in Hancock County, OH at Latitude 410951N, Longitude 0832549W. The same source lists the location of the town of Fostoria, Seneca County, Ohio at Latitude 410925N, Longitude 0832501W. Our publication: Original Land Entries of Seneca County, Ohio, by Brill, Sackett & Holscher, contains a map of Seneca County which shows that part of the town of Fostoria in Seneca County extends to the west into adjoining Hancock County. It would appear that Fountain Cemetery could lie in this part of Fostoria that lies in Hancock County. Also, the Findlay- Hancock County (OH) Public Library Obit Data Base Search web site (www.findlaylibrary.org/obituaryDB/Obituary_PromptSearch.asp) lists the following: Name: Arthur Herbert Cummings (Death ?) Date:18 Apr 1950 Papers: "Not in paper" Cemetery: Washingon-Fountain at Fostoria Name: Marian Sill Cummings (Death?) Date: 29 Mar 1962 Papers: "Not in paper." Cemetery: Washington-Fountain at Fostoria. Hope this might help in your search. Regards, Ken Shute (kwsroots@aol.com)

    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of the George BRYANT Family taken at the H.F. Pursell Studio in Fostoria, Ohio. The photograph includes George BRYANT and his wife Emma BRYANT and their nephew identified as Ober B. George appears to be in his 50's with Emma in her 40's or 50's and young Ober about 6 years of age at the time. Someone has also written "she is Uncle Fred daughter Emma" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I do find George & Emma BRYANT living in Freeport, OH during the 1880 census. George is age 31 b. OH to parents both born in NY, occupation Farmer and Emma age 30, b. OH to parents both born in OH. I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. military gravesites online
    2. Kristina Kuhn Krumm
    3. a cousin (and former military man) to my hubby, forwarded the following email to me. I think this will help folks a lot! Kristina (Kuhn) Krumm Webmaster of Wyandot County, OH at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohwyand2/ ******************************************* Release No. 04-19-04 April 23, 2004 VA offers on-line nationwide gravesite locator More than 3 million records showing where veterans have been buried in Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) national cemeteries are now available online. The innovation will make it easy for anyone with Internet access to search for the gravesite locations of deceased family members and friends. The nationwide grave locator contains more than three million records of veterans and dependents buried in VA's 120 cemeteries since the Civil War. It also has records of some burials in state veterans' cemeteries and burials in Arlington National Cemetery from 1999 to the present. "This advance in service culminates years of effort by VA's national cemetery staffs to put old paper records into this database," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi. "Making burial locations more accessible may bring more visitors to the honored resting places that we consider national shrines and historical treasures." The records date to the establishment of the first national cemeteries during the Civil War. The Web site -- at www.cem.va.gov -- will be updated nightly with information on burials the previous day. The site displays the same information that visitors to national cemeteries find on kiosks or in written ledgers to locate gravesites: name, dates of birth and death, period of military service, branch of service and rank if known, the cemetery's location and phone number, plus the grave's precise location in the cemetery. The home page, "Burial and Memorial Benefits," allows the reader to select the Nationwide Gravesite Locator to begin a search. State cemetery burial records are from those cemeteries that use VA's database to order government headstones and markers for veterans' graves. Since 1999, Arlington National Cemetery, operated by the Department of Army, has used that database. The information in the database comes from records of interment, which before 1994 were paper records, kept at each cemetery. VA's interment records contain more information than what is shown on the Internet and cemetery kiosks. Some information, such as identification of the next of kin, will not be shown to the public for privacy reasons. Immediate family members with a government identification card may request to see the full record of a burial when they visit a national cemetery. _________________________________________________________________ Stop worrying about overloading your inbox - get MSN Hotmail Extra Storage! http://join.msn.com/?pgmarket=en-us&page=hotmail/es2&ST=1/go/onm00200362ave/direct/01/
