My great-grrandfather, Daniel C. Foster, was born in Stark Co., Ohio, June 25, 1840. He enlisted at Attica, Ohio, May 11th, 1864, as a Private in Co. 'C' 164th O.V.I. and was honorably discharged at Cleveland, OH, August 27th, 1864. He re-inlisted at Attica, OH, Sept 28th, 1864, as a private in Co. 'F' 62nd O.V.I. and was honorable discharged at Richmond, VA, June 20, 1865. By 1869 he had moved to Fulton Co., OH. He was a shoemaker. His wife was Henrietta Shrieves. On January 26, 1871, a Franklin K. Foster, Attica, Seneca Co., Ohio, wrote "Uncle Daniel Foster, I take my pen in hand to drop you a few lines to let you know that your brother John was buried yesterday...grandmother is here staying with us now. Sarah is going to stay here until Spring and then I guess she will go out in the country somewhere. I don't know whether you knew that I was staying to home this winter and going to school...grandmother was only to home a little over one week before he died. I wen! t ! out after a week ago yesterday and John died the next Tuesday...Mr Royer preached his sermon...Lydia has not come out here yet and John wanted to see her awful bad..." So far, I have no information on any of Daniel's siblings/parents except this letter. Does anyone recognize any of these people or have any more information that might be of help to me? Thanks. Knowing how difficult Smith must be, passing this along, as it turned up from my PML for Tiffin, Ohio. I have no other knowledge of this post. Source: [email protected] Subject: [SMITH] Family Bible I found a query on one of the query boards for Smith. I thought it might be my John Smith but after receiving this response it turned out to be another John Smith. Thought I would stick the reply out there and see if the anyone was interested. I will put you in touch with the lady I received the email from. Here is her reply: In the front of the Bible; "Presented to Mrs.. J.H. Smith by her husband ~ April 2, 1884" "Marriage" This certifies that John H. and Sarah J. Dove were united by me in the Holy bonds of matrimony at Bloomville, (no state given here! - I just assumed Ohio before! - maybe it is in Kentucky!) 21, February, 1867/ Martha Seits and Lewis (Jervis?) Seitz --- (yes Martha's name was spelled with an "s" at the end and Lewis's was spelled with a "z") -- Sis thought that it looked like "Lewis" instead of Jervis when I spoke with her this evening. "Births" Mary Ellen Smith - January 27, 1868 - Died March 12, 1869 - 1 yr. 1mo. 13 days of age Jola Belle Smith - October 20, 1869 - Died June 18, 1878 - 8 yrs. 8 mo. 28 days of age Elizzie Jane Smith - May 27, 1872 - (must have survived!) Jesse Grant Smith - April 2, 1874 - Died July 8, 1878 - 4 yrs. 3 mo. 6 days of age Nellie May Smith - Feb. 17, 1877 - Died April 3, 1879 - 2 yrs 1 mo. 17 days of age Eva Etta Smith - Feb. 27, 1880 - (must have survived!) "Memorandum" John Henry Smith born October 30, 1842 Sara Jane Smith born August (? 11th or 14th?) 184 (? 7 or 9?) Sis said some guy found this Bible in a house in Colorado - she is presuming it was in the Denver area - or up in the mountains north of Denver. He had brought the Bible into an antique shop and the dealer bought the Bible from the guy. She is in possession of the Bible, but it is not hers to sell. She lived with the antique dealer at one time (he lived with her) and when their relationship ended, he left several of his antique items and that was one of them. She has lost contact with him, but doesn't want to give the Bible up at this time as she feels it isn't hers to give away or sell.) There were two pictures in the Bible as well. The one picture is of a man, woman and a baby. on the back it says: "Taken Lizzie Smith, Bloomville, Ohio - put on her bowtie....?....??....." (can't read the rest) Tun_son and Son Photographers - Tiffin, Ohio (could be Tiffan - I don't know how it is spelled she just read it off to me over the phone) The other picture is of a lady - nothing is written on the back. It was also done by Tun?son and Son Photographers - Tiffin, Ohio. Good Luck, Jim Smith [email protected] ********************************** Jane

Hi List, Thanks for the response to my inquiry about Yellow Springs and Bethel Cemetery. After further research I have come to the conclusion that my LSD info for Isaac Hedges dieing in Yellow Springs, Seneca County Ohio is in error. I went through the Seneca County history and could not find Yellow Springs. I was aware of Green Springs as I worked there on NKP RR in 1951. Thanks again for the responses as they are appreciated. Hi! New to the list. I need help from some kind soul who has access to the cemetery listing book for Seneca Co. We were there back in 1998 looking for Catherine Feindel's burial location. On page 481 of the book we found the Catherine who was the wife of Nicholas Feindel. There was another listed on page 597, but I didn't look at it since we thought we had the right one. Turns out Nicholas married two Catherines...a Nevergall and a Peters. The first, the one I'm really interested in, was born about 1817 and died about 1845. What I'm hoping is the Catherine Feindel on page 597 is that first wife that we are related to. Any help would be most appreciated. Nola in Indiana
I now that Higginson Books does something similar - but then you have to pay for the paper bound books. Getting copies of the book on CD would probably be cheaper.
