    1. about St. Marys cemetery
    2. Kris Kuhn
    3. this person wrote to me with this question.. I do not think he is on the list. Please respond to him... and the list... <grin> -Kris Kuhn Letter from: Steve Barnes of Akron, OH his address: [email protected] Since you have a connection to Tiffin's history, would you happen to know when St. Mary's cemetery was moved to its current location? I believe it used to be next to St. Mary's church in Tiffin, but was relocated to make room for the school that stands there now. Since I have a number of family members interred there, I would be interested to know when the cemetery was moved. Do you have any information on this, or do you know someone you could ask? Thank you again for your kind assistance! :) Steve _______________________________________________________ Send a cool gift with your E-Card http://www.bluemountain.com/giftcenter/

    2. Poor House Lady
    3. We would like to invite you to visit The POORHOUSE STORY website (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses)at http://www.poorhousestory.com Thanks to many of the Ohio "listers" who volunteered to do the transcribing, we have been posting the poorhouse records extracted from the WPA Inventories for several Ohio counties. We just published the WPA Inventory of Poorhouse records for SENECA County. For history fans and genealogy buffs alike ... we think you will enjoy these. Be sure to check the list of Infirmary Directors at the bottom of the inventory. (Lots of folks have written to us after we published some of the other counties to say they found ancestors there!) Here is a description: (Please read! I do NOT know where these records are NOW. If you wish access to them, you will need to track them down yourself. And if you do, we would appreciate your feedback to share on the site.) --------------------------- During the 1930's and 1940's the Work Projects Administration (WPA) began the process of inventorying County Archives of Ohio. Their work was cut short when funding elapsed prior to World War II, but several volumes were published. The Columbiana County edition states: "The inventories produced by the Historical Records Survey Program attempt to do more than give merely a list of records--they attempt further to sketch in the historical background of the county or other unit of government, and to describe precisely and in detail the organization and functions of the government agencies whose records they list. The county, town, and other local inventories will, when completed, constitute an encyclopedia of local government as well as bibliography of local archives." ... While these records may no longer be stored in the vault, it is proof that they did exist at the time the book was compiled. It may take some digging, but chances are good that the records can be found. The WPA Inventories were never totally completed for all counties in Ohio. ... They are unavailable today except in most major Ohio libraries, where a complete set will usually be found. page 60 OHIO GENEALOGICAL GUIDE 6th Edition by Carol Willsey Bell, C.G. --------------------------------- Note: Of the 27 counties whose WPA Inventories included Infirmary (poorhouse)records ... we have now posted the excerpts from 16 of them and are working on the others. We have posted: ASHLAND ATHENS BELMONT COLUMBIANA FAYETTE FRANKLIN HANCOCK LAKE LUCAS MADISON MONTGOMERY PIKE ROSS SENECA *** STARK SUMMIT If you have recently visited the site, you may need to click on REFRESH when you get to relevant pages in order to see the NEW material. If you are new to the site, DIRECTIONS: At the homepage (linked above at the top of this e-mail) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then click on OHIO on the table of states. The WPA Inventories' link is at the top. Hope you enjoy! Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)

    1. Re: Philip BURTSCHER, Seneca Co, Loudon Twp, Naturalization:
    2. If possible, I would appreciate any information available regarding Philiip BURTSCHER's Naturalization. I estimate that he migrated to Ohio in about 1851-1852. He was born in Prussia in 1826. He was married to Margaret (surname unknown to me), also born in Prussia in 1829. Philip was a farmer. There was also a Nick BURTSCHER of Fostoria, Seneca, born in Prussia in 1840. He was a retail grocer. Any information about Nick Burtscher would be appreciated, but my primary interest is with Philip Burtscher since he was my gr. grandfather. I would be most interested in obtaining copies of the actual papers, but I would be very satisfied just to have the dates, place, and other vital information by which I might order copies. Thank you for your help. Tom Burtscher.

    3. FYI, this was sent on to me regarding Seitz and Bloom twp, please contact Karl directly for any further info. He wrote: Jane Irwin: A cousin of mine forwarded your recent posting to the Seneca County, Ohio, e-mail list concerning a family Bible. While I have no knowledge of the Smith and Dove families, the certification of marriage was made by a brother of my great-great grandfather and his second wife. Lewis Seitz Jr., born Oct 21, 1802, died July 12, 1890, was the son of a Baptist pastor and became one himself. He moved from Fairfield County, Ohio, to Bloom township, Seneca County, Ohio as a young adult with his first wife. Seneca County histories often refer to him as Elder Lewis Seitz. His second wife was Martha Mawk Hershberger, a widow. She was born about 1809 and died Sep. 22, 1883. I pass on this information so you can tell the lady that the Smith-Dove marriage definitely took place in Bloomville, Ohio. -- Karl Seitz > >-------------------- >X-Message: #1 >Date: Thu, 25 Jan 2001 08:17:02 -0500 >From: "Jane Irwin" <[email protected]> >To: [email protected] >Message-ID: <[email protected]> >Subject: SMITH/DOVE/SEITZ Bloomville/fwd another list >Content-Type: text/plain; > charset="iso-8859-1" >Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > >Knowing how difficult Smith must be, passing this along, as it turned up >from my PML for Tiffin, Ohio.
