    3. It was not unusual during the Civil War for a person to immediately re-enlist upon being discharged. Normally that person was then assigned to a new unit. This also meant that they were entitled to a new bounty payment as well, which was a big enticement for re-enlisting. I would say that it seems likely that J. S. & John S. are the same person. As far as St. Joseph Catholic Church, that is indeed the same congregation as St. Joseph German Catholic Church. That congregation formed in 1845, because of the desire of a number of Catholics in Tiffin to hear their services in German. This was also true of other denominations as well, such as the founding of the German (2nd) Reformed Church of Tiffin in 1850. 3. I have it all finished, scanned, uploaded and viewable! Finally! Who's silly idea was that anyway??? <grin> 737 pages to scan is nothing to sneeze at! As most of you know I had to break it down into two sites, hoping to cut the delay time down on accessing pages. so there is "volume one" and "volume two" the links for both are listed on my homepage below. ALSO just a FYI I have family from Wyandot county as well. There is LITTLE on the net for that county. Those "Wyandot-ians" are just are not helpful like us wonderful SENECA folks (tee hee) anyways, with my fiance's digital camera, I took hundreds of photos of tombstones while in Upper Sandusky doing research. (Genealogy of course) and have created a new "Wyandot cemeteries" page. The link to that is on my homepage below as well. I have had Little feed back on the sites, I am wondering if folks have any trouble accessing... or the time it takes to view a page etc. -Kris Kuhn Columbus, OH (but born and raised in Tiffin, OH) my NEW webpage: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ohio/links2.shtml _______________________________________________________ Send a cool gift with your E-Card http://www.bluemountain.com/giftcenter/

    1. Research Request
    2. Is there anyone who could tell me the parents of Caroline/Carolina Miller who married John Harter. She was 80 yrs. old in the 1920 census with Anna Harter and Ida T. Harter living with her. Her husband was not listed. They were living in Tiffin at the time. The name of a researcher would be welcome. I am going to go nuts if I don't find out who her parents are as she may be an unknown sister of my great grandfather, Benedick Miller! I believe her parents to be Ignatius and Carolina Miller who were from Baden, Germany. The older Carolina is buried in St. Joseph's cemetery. Any help or guidance greatly appreciated. I will gladly pay someone to find this for me. Linda Miller Wilson

    1. Miller/ Harter/Turner
    2. I am a new subscriber to the Seneca list and am researching the family of Ignatius Miller and his wife Kerolina Keiffer Miller. They lived in Tiffin around 1850. Kerolina (Carolina/Caroline) is buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery. She was born in Offenburg-Baden, Germany, as was Ignatius/Ignatz/Ignazius. I don't know where Ignatius is buried, but there is an empty spot next to her in the cemetery which might be an unmarked grave. Kerolina died in 1883. They had at least two sons and one daughter. I do not know the name of the daughter. Two of the boys were Benedick and Max Miller. I believe that they apprenticed in a wagon making business in Tiffin. I have seen that there was an Ignatius K. Miller who married Mary E. Buxton on May 29, 1890. Ignatius was 22 at the time. This might be a grandson of Ignatius and Kerolina. The K might stand for Keiffer. Therefore, there might be another son besides Max and Benedick, who is my great grandfather. I also am interested in Anna Harter, Tillie Harter, and Joseph Miller who were living in Tiffin in 1913. Benedick ordered magazine subscriptions to be sent to these three people in Tiffin. He was living in Kansas City with a house also in Paola, KS, at the time. Additionally, he sent subscriptions to a Joseph Miller in Mount Clement, Michigan, and to a Mrs. William Turner in Eagle, Wisconsin. I am very interested in locating information about these people to see where they fit in. Benedick's family is still in contact with each other on a regular basis. Max did not have any children. Also, one of Benedick's children was named Mathilda and was called Tillie. Ignatius and Kerolina emigrated from Germany to Ohio by way of New Orleans. A family story states that the steamboat on which they were riding up the Mississippi River exploded, and a daughter was killed. At first I was told that this was the only daughter; however, in Benedick's letters he states that he has to go to Ohio to see his sister, who is unnamed in the letter. I feel so close to finding his sister and perhaps another brother. I have already gotten some wonderful help from Deb Freedman in Washington. Thank you for reading this long message! 3. The land for the original St. Mary's church & cemetery was purchased from Josiah Hedges by Bishop Fenwick in 1829. It was located at the east end of Madison St. where Calvert High School is now located, and was adjoining the old city cemetery where Little Hedges park now is located. (Schoenhart St. was not extend into Madison until about 1916) In the 1870's the old parish cemetery was completely full. In July of 1878 Father Michael Healy purchased the 5 acre site of the present cemetery from Michael Kuhn. I am not sure when the graves were moved from the old cemetery, but I believe it might have been during the early decades of the 1900's.
