My Courtright family is a major brick wall for me. My John Courtright & Mary Clark were married 1797 in Sussex Co., NJ. There has been a lot of research on this family in early NY/NJ. I know all the earliest history of this family but need my missing link to connect to the main line. In the Minisink area of NJ there were many Courtrights, Deckers, Westfalls & Clarks. They can be found on almost every page of the Reformed Dutch church records. I know all abt Solomon Courtright who died 1844 in Peru, Huron Co., OH. However he doesn't seem to be closely related to my John. At least I know he's not a sibling or parent & so of no help in my research. By 1800 John & Mary moved to Beaver Co., PA (near Pittsburgh), then across into Columbiana Co., OH in 1818. John was last in Jefferson Co., OH in 1830 as was his oldest son Jacob V. Courtwright. However by 1850 Jacob moved to Norwich Twp., Huron Co. His neighbors being Simon Westfall his wife Esther Brink & their daughter Jane Westfall who was married to Peter G. Decker, & their children James & Cornelia Decker. Most of Jacobs children seem to have moved over to Venice Twp., Seneca Co., OH, as well as James Decker. However Jacob's nephew James Courtwright (s/o Isaac) moved to Huron between 1901-1909 along w/ his wife Barbara Cook. To complicate matters further their daughter Martha , b. 12/12/1878 -1944, married Grant W. Courtright c1893. Now Grant was the s/o Harmon B. Courtright but I have no idea who he was!? If anyone knows of these families I would love to share information. Thanks, Cindy Cindy Torres Owens [email protected] http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/o/w/e/Cindy-L-Owens/index.html

Whether it's still valid is a moot point. If you have some people you're looking for, I'll be happy to take a look. Al O'Brien

Hello, I am new to the list. I have been researching my husband's lines, have hit a wall, and am hoping there might be a clue in Fostoria, Ohio. My dh's great grandfather, Jeremiah Timothy SULLIVAN, was born in 1865 and raised in NYC. In 1887 he appeared in Kingston, Iowa, and married Cora DEARLOVE. The couple moved back to NYC between 1890 and approximately 1896. In 1897, they had a daughter, Cora SULLIVAN (b. Sept. 22, 1897), in Fostoria, Ohio. By 1900 they were back in Kingston, Iowa. We have been unable to find Cora SULLIVAN's birth certificate. We have also been unable to find Jeremiah SULLIVAN's father in NYC. None of the family knows why Jerry and Cora would have been in Fostoria. During the year(s) they would have been there, they would have been a young family with the following children: Ellen Mable, b. 1887, Frank, b. 1890, George, b. 1892, Agnes, b. 1896, and then Cora, born 1897 in Fostoria. When they returned to Iowa, Jerry went to work in an iron factory. I live in Oregon and can't get to Ohio. The time when the SULLIVAN's would have been in Fostoria falls between census years. I was hoping someone might know the answer to any of the following: Was there an iron mill or anything similar in Fostoria, Ohio? My guess is that the family would not have moved there just on a whim. They may have gone to be near relatives. Has anyone heard of the following surnames in Fostoria in the 1890's?: SULLIVAN, DEARLOVE, BARNES, MOEL, O'NEILL, SHEA, or CLARK? Was there anything like a city directory in Fostoria in 1897? Was there a Catholic church in Fostoria in 1897? Would anyone have any idea why people from New York City would move to Fostoria, Ohio, en route to Iowa? We are hoping that if we can figure Jeremiah SULLIVAN out, we may be able to find his father, James SULLIVAN, or his uncle (?) Daniel SULLIVAN. Many thanks for any ideas or suggestions! Posted on: Seneca Co. Oh Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Oh/Seneca/10093 Surname: Loesser, Best ------------------------- Rosa Loesser, my great-grandmother came to the United States from Alsace-Lorraine (then Germany, now France) when she was 18, exact year unknown, probably in the 1870s. She had 3 siblings: Julia, John, Vincent. She married Henry Best. They had 4 children: Mary Catherine, Anna (died in infancy), Wille (died in infancy) John Henry b. 1881 d. 1962 (my grandfather). John Henry Best was born in West Virginia, but from childhood to middle age lived in Ohio, at least part of the time in and around Tiffin, Seneca Co. I have found what I believe is my Rosa Loesser Bests death information in the Ohio Death Certificate Index. It states: Best, Rosa, Date of Death: 3/16/1916, County: Hamilton Does any one have any information about Rosa and her siblings? I am particularly interested in where and when she was born. I would also be interested in information about Henry Best. Thank you Sherry Palmiter
Hi everyone, I am new to the list, and I am searching for information on my Moses family. William S. Moses and his wife, Sarah Perry moved to Fostoria in 1858, and then moved on to Lansing Michigan about 1871. They had several children: Laura, Francis, Luther, Volney, Charles, William, Thomas and Catharine. William S. was born in Pennsylvania in 1828 and died in Lansing in 1899. Sarah was born about 1833-1835 and died in 1903. William and several of his sons worked for E. Bement in Fostoria and went with them when they opened in Lansing. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church and was a bass singer with the Methodist Church in Fostoria. If anyone has information on the Moses family or history of the Bement factory I would like to get in touch. I am also trying to find anything about Sarah Perry. I only know her name and some dates. Thanks, Jim Moses

Do you know if St. Patrick's was built by the brick and stone masons MENG or MANG? I have been told that they built several Catholic Church's in the area and lived in Tiffin. Thanks for any information you may have. Ruthie Meng [email protected]
The old St. Patrick's Church which was located on the Bullfrog Road (Co. Rd. 18) was built in 1863. It was a mission of the St. Boniface parish at New Riegel. The church was struck by lightning on June 16, 1913, and it was completely destroyed by fire, with only the foundation remaining. The new church was built in Bascom. There is a brief history of the St. Patrick's parish, including a picture of the old church, on pages 57-60 in the 1987 Bascom Sesquicentennial booklet. I believe there is a copy available in the Tiffin Library. Don Rogier
hi all I want to thank all who responded to my inquiry for photo's of the Original old church. I shall persue this matter when I return from my honeymoon about mid April. There is an old church building directly accross the road from St. Patrick's Cemetery, which is south of Bascom. I assume that this was the old St. Patrick's church, although I do not know for sure. If anyone knows for sure if this is the old St. Patrick's Church, reply to the list. I do have a modern day picture of this old building, which is now in private hands as a storage building. Jared L. Lindley m. Rachel Amanda E. Babylon, granddaughter of Elizabeth Smith who was an early pioneer (1833) of Seneca Co., in Seneca Co on April 15, 1845. Amanda came to Seneca Co. with her grandmother and aunts from MD in 1833 after her mother died in childbirth. They settled in Bloom Twp. near Elizabeth's daughter and son-in-law Solomon and Lydia Miller and their family. Later Jared and Amanda Lindley can be found in the 1850 Hancock census and then in Wood Co until their deaths. But, I cannot find where Jared came from or who his parents and siblings were. Are there any Lindley families in Seneca Co. in the early 1840s? Is anyone researching Lindley on this list or Smith and Miller that might have some information on Jared L. Lindley? Thank you. Pat in Indiana
Does anyone know of a woman named Agnes whose maiden name was Park or Parke, or who married into a Park or Parke family? Supposedly, an Agnes Park(e) married into the Welch/Welsh family of Seneca County, which I am researching. I have not been able to verify this, but maybe someone on this list can. Thank you.
